Bringing this up again.

I have spent allot of time trying to get this to work with only a little success and have noticed a few other things of note.

I read that Alt-Tabing out and enabling it in CCC once the game is running works. This method is very unreliable. When I did get it to work I noticed a big jump in my frame rate by almost double. 20 - 30 upto 40 - 50 in the winter demo. This I suspect was because the game was only running on one core and enabling the AA some how activated both GPU cores. I also tried using ATI Tray Tools but this didn't work either.

I was able to turn it on and off consistently when running in windowed mode but the 4870X2 only runs on one core in this mode.

The fact that the game uses two seperate executables (launcher & DCS) means I cannot force the settings on startup because you cannot launch DCS.exe directly.

It's quite disheartening knowing that my machine is capable of running the game at max settings 1920x1200 8x Edge Detect AA(24) 16xAF with 40 -50 FPS but I have to prey to the gods that I can get the damn thing to actually get into this mode.

I hope in the forthcoming patch this might be something that can be looked at. It might actually be a driver issue and the ball is in ATI's court.

My System:

CPU: Q9550

Vid: 4870X2 (Cat 9.6)

RAM: 4GB

OS: Win XP32 Pro SP3

SND: X-FI

not sure what the problem is for you, all my ATI settings work fine except vsync and I force that with D3D override. You are unchecking "use Application settings", correct?

I had this exact same problem, I got a new 4890 at the start of the week, Loaded up Black shark and UGH!! no AA or AF (edit:- or V-sync either), only ALT-tabbing and resetting the Catalyst settings would work. And of course Alt-tabbing can crash BS altogether depending on the mission you are in (ships = crash) :(

So after much useless bitter recrimination about my new purchase, I have been reinstalling drivers & windows, in different orders, while doing handstands, and facing exactly 52 degrees north, and losing Black shark activations like confetti in the wind..

AA & AF work, now. and I have absolutely no idea why. What I did do was remove every thing from starting with windows and run it from a batch file after windows had loaded. I have no idea why this worked but it does. Download CCleaner. Look in the tools section of CCleaner to view all the startup programs if you want to try it.

Another problem I have is a stuttering issue (60fps constant, but very jerky movement) Which I believe to be related to ATI drivers in WinXP having a problem with the Desktop res being the same as the 3d res.

Yet another Problem, was with Catalys AI ON, launcher exe wouldn't function at all, so I had to use DCSMAX to fly, before I eventually figured it out.

I'm never going to buy ATI again, I don't care how fast the cards are, the drivers are crap.

Thanks for the reply Nate!

Yeah I'm feeling the same, there are times when I love my card, but the amount of issues like this just leave a bad taste in your mouth.

I'm going back to Nvidia next card.

When it does work it looks very very good, the combination of 8x AA and 16 AF create such a sharp crisp image you can spot details a long way out. It looks incredible.

Yeah they're unchecked.

Thats interesting, perhaps its some other software that starts up with windows that prevents it from working correctly.

Are you running in Fullscreen mode?

Have you tried earlier Catalyst driver? For me when I had 2x HD4870 in CF 8.12 were best driver. I finally gave up on CF and sold one card since very frequently I would have stutters, but unlike you I never had AA of AF not to work add all I used was ATI Catalyst driver and CCC (never even used ATI Tray tools)

No longer active in DCS...

I'm not exactly sure why removing the start up programs works, because I start every single one of them after windows has booted. I have tried both fullscreen and windowed mode. but mainly fullscreen as it provides higher fps.

Kuky i have tried the 8.12s after hearing good things about them but unfortunately my 4890 must be a relatively new card as it is supported only in Cat 9.4 and onwards

Good luck sh0v0r, I hope you get it sorted out.
