Before I got the Winwing MIPs for the F18 I was able to use the kneeboard. Loved it because there is so much useful information on there for flights. When I got my Winwing setup it now moved the kneeboard off screen and onto the MIPs and it is now completely unusable. I have tried clicking and dragging it to my main monitor but I can't find the title to drag it, and after several months of looking I was finally able to move the .LUA but it now violates the check in multiplayer servers so I had to move it back. I hope I explained this properly and will try to attach some stuff to help show what I mean. Please let me know if there's something that can be done. I miss the kneeboard and the custom one's I've added that I haven't been able to use in over 8 months now.

Thank you and have a great day! Keep kicking ass!

Forgive my ignorance but where do I find that? Is that a special program? If so, what's it called? I've looked all over!!

VoiceAttack? Or the Windows screen app?

edit <DCS install path>\Scripts\Aircrafts\_Common\Cockpit\ViewportHandling.lua and look for the line "dedicated_viewport           = {default_x,default_y,default_width,default_height}".  It should be around line 33 or so.

Comment out the original line and make a copy to play with the values and see what works for you.  This is what mine looks like:

    --dedicated_viewport           = {default_x,default_y,default_width,default_height}
     dedicated_viewport           = {40,990,760,1160}

You'll have to restore this modded file whenever you update or repair so make a copy.  DCS updater will put it automatically in _backup.XXX in case you forget to back it up manually.

This doesn't violate the integrity check? I've done it one way finally, but it prevents me from flying on certain servers so I had to revert it back.

If you go the VoiceAttack route, it won't.

oh wow! so this doesn't use the existing kneeboard but makes a new one? or does it just activate the existing one? and it uses voice commands? I need to do way more research on this. Thanks for the suggestion!!!!

VoiceAttack just sends keystrokes and mouse commands to active window. So you'll just use it to drag and resize the original keyboard to the correct position.
When you got VoiceAttack, make sure you get the free VAICOM plugin for DCS, and you can speak your radio commands for like ATC, Tankers, JTAC and wingmen.

somehow all my comments were deleted. Voice attack allows moving the kneeboard to whereever you want. It jusr requires knowing where you are on the screen. I used this utility to help out

https://sourceforge.net/projects/mpos/
VoiceAttack will show position when pressing F8 to capture, while that is a nice app. Will try it. I use another one to find my MFDs export positions for Helios.

Losing the text is a real bitch. Next time when pasting screenshots, look for a line saying "paste as plain text". The it won't happen and you don't get the ridiculous "null" text.

You could also use something like AutoHotKey (AHK) to send the appropriate commands to move and resize the kneeboard to a better spot for you.

It can also send mouse commands? Or is it possible to move it with the keyboard? If yes it went totally over my head.

Unfortunately it does.  I don't do MP so I often forget to factor that in when replying.

Haven't used it to send mouse commands myself, but IIRC it is able to yes.  Probably not much different to using Viacom etc, but might be slightly lighter overhead if you're not using it for other things and saves having to fight voice recognition (which has sometimes been a challenge for me 🙂).

Right, cool. VAICOM can't do it though, VoiceAttack does.

Oh man, this seems all way over my head. I started PC gaming back in Feb but haven't had a PC in over 15 years before this. I might just wait for a DCS update/change in the kneeboard if that ever comes. I very much appreciate the insight and options though. I'm just nervous about having all these add ons and stuff running in the background is all and maybe just doing stuff that's way out of my comfort zone and don't want to "break" anything further 😆

You won't break anything with VoiceAttack, as it's not even aware DCS exists. Search the forum about it and read all the positive comments. Another user told me the other day about a blind friend he had introduced it to. That's success!

Oh that's neat. I'll learn some more about it. Thanks again!

A far better solution would be for ED to code in DCS remembering where you last put the kneeboard.  Or at the very least removing it from breaking IC.

Of course! And that was to be implemented like five years ago. It works for IFLOLS, It works for grease mark in Kiowa.

The Kiowa also has a special option to relocate the controls indicator.  It's obviously possible to implement.  I'm starting to think ED doesn't care - it won't sell modules I guess.
