Very slow performance after running in background for a while

I run DCS my workstation (see below for details) which I am also using for work and other purposes too. Sometimes I switch DCS to the background to finish some other tasks on my PC: When switching DCS back to full screen after 15mins DCS runs so stuttering and slow that need to restart. This behaviour is reproduceable.

I don't know whether this can be considered as a bug or not. Just want to share my observations.

System: HP Z2 Tower, Win11 24H2, i9-14900K, 64GB RAM, 2TB SSD (M2) + 18TB HDD (Sata), GeForce RTX4070 TI Super 16GB VRAM, Samsung Odyssey 57" curved monitor (main screen) + BenQ 32" UW3270 (secondary screen), VKB Gunfighter Ultimate MK4 + S-TECS Throttle

DCS: All terrains, allmost all modules, most user flyable mods - CA, WWII Assets

1. Ensure your Windows Power Mode is enough (Settings > System > Power > In "Power mode", choose between "Balanced" and "Best performance").

(note my PC is currently set to "Best power efficiency" and I don't have your issue)

2. Ensure Power consumption and carbon emissions option is disabled (right below "Power mode").

(disabled on my PC)

3. If Hardware Accelerated GPU Scheduling is enabled, disable it (Settings > System > Display > Graphics > Click "Advanced graphics settings" then disable "Hardware Acceleration GPU Scheduling").

(disabled on my PC)

It's already enabled as you suggested, just 3) was enabled for harware acceleration. After disabling and restating all seems fine now, at least I haven't seen any issue during the last hour. I guess it's fixed now, thanks!

Any idea why hardware acceleration causes this?

Ok, I did a test run for the last two hours. Unfotunately the issue does not seem to disapear completely. However it's now much less severe with HAGS disabled. I also didn't notice any lower performance with HAGS disabled.

OK, here are some more suggestions:

1. Ensure your Windows Power Mode is enough (Settings > System > Power > In "Power mode", choose between "Balanced" and "Best performance"). ✅

2. Ensure Power consumption and carbon emissions option is disabled (right below "Power mode").  ✅

3. Disable Windows Hardware Accelerated GPU Scheduling✅

4. Ensure DCS is installed on an SSD, not an HDD.

5. Disable Fullscreen Optimization in DCS.exe file properties.

6. Go to "C:\Users\username\Saved Games\DCS.openbeta", and empty both "fxo" and "metashaders2" folders.

7. Open your antivirus settings and add and exception for "...\DCS World\" (or "...\DCS World OpenBeta\").

If you GPU is NVIDIA's:

8. Empty "C:\ProgramData\NVIDIA Corporation\NV_Cache" folder.

9. Disable or enable Threaded Optimization in the NVIDIA settings.

Ok.

4) this is a tough one. I already had DCS installed on my SSD only before but only the startup was faster, nothing else. That requires everything to be reinstalled. I leave that for later.

5) Don't know how to do that.

6) check.

7) check.

😎 There is no NV_Cache folder in my NVIDIA Corporation folder

9) Don't know how to do that.

Yet you have stutters...

You don't need to reinstall DCS to move it from an HDD to an SSD. Simply copy the folder from one drive to another (don't use Cut, it will avoid any issue with file permissions). Then give it a try on the SSD. If you see you don't have stutter anymore, just remove the folder from the HDD and keep playing on your SSD.
