Shortcut Posted February 13 Posted February 13 Can anyone tell me if the MFG Crosswinds Damper mod worth it, it's currently about $60 US. As of now I'm not into helicopters but that could change. I generally fly P-51, F-18, F16 and A-10 but I do have the Huey. I also use X-Plane 12. 13700K, MSI Z690 D4 Edge wifi, Swiftech H360X3 Cooling with Corsair Water Block, Gigabyte 4090 OC, 64gb Trident Z 3600 CL16, Evga 850W G2 power supply, Moza AB9, Virpil Apha Prime, Winwing Orion 2 Viper, TM Warthog, MFG Crosswinds With Damper, TrackIR 5, HP Reverb 2, Pimax Crystal
unlikely_spider Posted February 13 Posted February 13 I fly 95% fixed wing and 5% rotor. I like the damper a lot because it makes the pedals feel more like real pedals, in that there is a resistance to motion in a more constant gradient (meaning that it lacks a gradient, really), rather than the ever-increasing resistance that you get with springs. It allowed me to really dial down the spring tightness and have most of the resistance come from the damper, and the springs really are only felt when you're near the ends of the axis. It gives you just that much more customization, and in a peripheral that I expect to last for very many years, is worth it for me. Modules: Wright Flyer, Spruce Goose, Voyager 1
Smashy Posted February 13 Posted February 13 I have the damper mod and after experimenting with it for a few weeks, I removed it. It's good for larger deflections and does add a feeling of weight to the pedals. However, the stiction of the damper adds an unpleasant resistance when doing small, precise movements. Not great for warbirds or helos with my setup. FWIW, I don't use curves or deadzones on any of my primary flight control axes.

I don't notice any stiction on mine. Modules: Wright Flyer, Spruce Goose, Voyager 1

I have read that the actual damper pistons are available to purchase from general parts distributors, but I don't know exactly which would match. (You'd still need the MFG-specific attachment parts of course, but the actual piston should be replaceable if that's he source of the issue) Modules: Wright Flyer, Spruce Goose, Voyager 1
Shortcut Posted February 13 Author Posted February 13 I was thinking of get one off Amazon they run about 35 - 40 dollars but by the time I find the hardware to install it and the fuel running around to get the parts ( I live in the country) it would be better to just order it for the couple of dollars I would save. Any body else experiencing stiction? 13700K, MSI Z690 D4 Edge wifi, Swiftech H360X3 Cooling with Corsair Water Block, Gigabyte 4090 OC, 64gb Trident Z 3600 CL16, Evga 850W G2 power supply, Moza AB9, Virpil Apha Prime, Winwing Orion 2 Viper, TM Warthog, MFG Crosswinds With Damper, TrackIR 5, HP Reverb 2, Pimax Crystal
erniedaoage Posted February 14 Posted February 14 I bought mine with the damper and it works like a charm. I can't say they feel sticky, but different to pure springs. It's a bit hard to explain, i still can make small adjustments in warbirds and helis. But it doesn't feel sticky like the TM 16000 pedals or throttle i owned. It feels different to a normal spring. Shortcut Posted February 21 Author Posted February 21 I was not sure about adding a damper so I took the returnable way if I did not like it. I purchased a damper then I drilled holes in my V2 Crosswinds in the same place the V3's have them. I then taped them with a 5/16-18 tap and used 2 5/16 socket head bolts with spacers to mount the damper I already had the bolts and spacers. When I finished the look just like the V3 but the damper is all black. So far I really like the damper it seems much easier to hold the center line. 13700K, MSI Z690 D4 Edge wifi, Swiftech H360X3 Cooling with Corsair Water Block, Gigabyte 4090 OC, 64gb Trident Z 3600 CL16, Evga 850W G2 power supply, Moza AB9, Virpil Apha Prime, Winwing Orion 2 Viper, TM Warthog, MFG Crosswinds With Damper, TrackIR 5, HP Reverb 2, Pimax Crystal
