So I recently found out that I am now in the middle of DLL Hell. I tried the lockon.exe.local thing and I get an application error. It first happened when I installed Flaming Cliffs. I reinstalled the vanilla LOMAC and the problem persists. Now I can't even play :joystick: Anyone have any ideas?

It didn't fix the problem.

Are you on Vista or XP?

In Vista you need to run in "Compatibility Mode" for "Windows XP Service Pack 3" and also "Run as Administrator".

if it is MSVCRT.DLL and similar files, you can try getting the latest

Visual c++ Redist, here http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=a5c84275-3b97-4ab7-a40d-3802b2af5fc2&displaylang=en ,

not sure how this applies to vista, there is also a 64bit version somewhere

I am running Windows XP Service Pack 2. Does BS have the same problem? I have heard that SP2 causes some problems with LOMAC. I have a free copy of Vista somewhere in my office...

Can anyone help me on this? I can't even play :/ I did a registry clean and replaced the mscvrt.dll in the LOMAC folder but the problem still persists. The lockon.exe.local fix didn't work. I have tried everything...I have service pack 2 but is that a problem?

Now, I'm not sure, but I think the DLL in question, actually belongs to Windows and not the game. I think, you'll need to reinstall Windows. Again, not sure if the simple runtime C++ package will be enough (wasn't for me and had to reinstall Windows altogether).

OTOH, the reason I went for default installation paths is because XP SP2 requires it (LO exe can't "see" GAME's DLLs at non-default paths), unlike clean or SP1 Windows XP. SP2 has something screwed and I don't know whether this has been fixed in SP3.

I have service pack 3 installed but I guess I will need to reinstall windows or at least get the .dll off of the install disk.

Another weird thing is that I can only fire the cannon. Same goes for all of the planes. No I am not an idiot. The HUD designates that I have an AIM-9,ect and I am in the correct HUD mode and my trigger (Joystick) is binded to the fire key. Bah.

At least this one I can help you with.

Lockon patch v1.02 and all later versions changed the firing of weapons for US jets to make them more like the real life jets.

Spacebar fires the cannon. Always fires the cannon whatever weapon you have selected. Just like the real life jets.

Enter key is for bombs, rockets, missiles. It fires whichever weapon is selected. Depending on your stick, the Enter key might already be bound to one of the other buttons/triggers.

NOTE that the Russian jets are unchanged. Spacebar fires everything on Russian jets.

I can't find my original XP disk but I have a Vista disk that I haven't installed yet. If I install Vista would it fix the mscvrt.dll error?

Dunno about Vista's DLLs, but judging by the amount of problems Vista users have with LockOn (browse a Help section a bit), I'd recommend sticking to XP.

I can play FBP dogfights without any problems and online works but I can't play the campaigns or missions without the .dll crash.

My PC came with XP already installed so I don't have an install disk. But I do have a copy of Vista that I could install. I know about the compatibility problems but frankly whats the difference if I can't even play LOMAC on XP?

I managed to play an entire Su-25 mission, one of the custom ones, without a crash. I finished it and then I tried playing the A-10 campaign and it caused a crash.

Go to store where you bought your PC and demand Windows reinstall. You have already payed for Windows, when you bought your computer, so you're entitled to that service.

Other than that, fresh installation will solve your problems, but as I said, with Vistas you may easly experience numerous other problems...

Edit: I patched to 1.02 and it returned. I have tried everything beyond installing Vista. I have tried numerous other attempts over the past month and I have failed. I am crushed. Considering nobody around here will help at least it works for you.

In fact installing Windows 7 is not a bad thing! :music_whistling: Now I have a new shiny system disk, and an archive backup of the old one, and can install XP as a dual boot option, and can install vista as the third boot option!

But if I want to run Lomac, what OS should I choose :helpsmilie:? I got creative X-FI gamer, saitek X52 and TrackIR that needs to work as well!

Besides a nt.dll crash that happens every once in a while I get better performance in LOMAC with Vista then I do with XP. I say go with Vista if you can get everything to work properly.

Yea I'l go with vista for lomac. The strange thing is that all other games including the old IL2 Sturmovik works like charm in Windows 7 :D
