SnowTiger Posted March 13 Posted March 13 Hello everyone. I started using my new Quest 3 VR headset along with the DataLink Cable. It has taken 4 full weekends to get things working nicely (as far as visuals go). I do NOT use the Quest 3 Controllers in DCS although I did see early on that the Left Controller had/has a Zoom button (or button combo ?) that worked for Zooming in. However, I found the controllers to be problematic in DCS at best. The problem I'm having is that None of the Zoom Mapping I have done on my VKB Gunfighter MCG Pro Stick or my Warthog Throttle are working. These are the same Buttons (etc) that I have always used for Zooming In/Out/Normal in DCS. In some modules, I have also used the Warthog Throttle's Lever/Slider thingy for Zooming In/Out but even that isn't working any more. I'm hoping another Quest 3 user can help me resolve this issue ? The graphics are decent enough but DCS is unplayable without the use of Zoom because the Quest 3 just doesn't have the Resolution. I'd appreciate any input, especially if you have already dealt with this issue and have resolved it. PLEASE and THANK YOU. PS> My PC Specs are below (I think). Porkbrain Posted March 13 Posted March 13 Hi, the settings for VR Zoom are in the UI Layer in the Controls menu. toggle VR Zoom is the one that I use, there is also a toggle VR Spyglass Zoom option but I find that is like being smacked in the eyes by the object that you are zooming in on. 1 1

Thank you kindly for your reply. I certainly don't want to be "smacked in the eye" by anything ! LOL It took me a minute to find the UI Layer .. In truth, I have NEVER seen that there before. I noticed when I selected "Toggle VR Zoom" with the button(s) I used to Zoom In/Out when using TrackIR, the Options Window (at the bottom) shows that I use the same button for Zoom in other aircraft modules BUT it doesn't seem to imply there is any Conflict. It just appears to be showing that I use the same button elsewhere. I hope this is Normal and won't have any negative effect ? In any case, I can't wait to try it out. Thank you so much for turning me on to this because I would have NEVER found this on my own. Happy Flights and Fights my friend. 2 SnowTiger AMD Ryzen 9 7950X - Zen 4 16-Core 4.5 GHz - Socket AM5 - 170W Desktop Processor ASUS ROG STRIX X670E-A GAMING WIFI 6E Socket AM5 (LGA 1718) Ryzen 7000 gaming motherboard Geforce RTX 4090 Gaming Trio X - 24GB GDDR6X + META Quest 3 + Controllers + Warthog Throttle, CH Pro Pedals, VKB Gunfighter MKII MCG Pro G.SKILL Trident Z5 Neo Series 64 GB RAM (2 x 32GB) 288-Pin PC RAM DDR5 6000 RAM
MAXsenna Posted March 19 Posted March 19 @SnowTiger Little off topic, but they have shifted some keybinds around, and added a few QoL features and categories. Ie, are you aware you can assign a hat/four buttons the browse the radio menu, (up/ down, enter/back), and the hat/buttons will retain their original bindings when the menu is closed? Like the trim hat will be a trim hat, except when the menu is open, then you can browse the menu. I just mention it because sometimes after an update there are new features not mentioned, even if this example was mentioned in the change log a couple of years back. 1

SnowTiger Posted March 19 Author Posted March 19 (edited) @MAXsenna Thank you. I did NOT know that. In fact, I'm not 100% sure what you are saying but it sound like IF I'm in VR and in a cockpit and go into the Controls menu that I could have a Hat or 4-way buttons or something to essentially Navigate through a list or something ? Or are you referring to the actual Operation and Tuning of RADIOS using a Hat (for example) ? Pardon my ignorance. I'm knew to VR even though I purchased a brand new HP Reverb G2 but only used it for a few minutes during a time when I took 6 years away from DCS due to too many frustrations. By the time I returned, the G2 was obsolete. So Much has changed in DCS that I feel like I'm learning all over again (after flying since 2008). Anyway, I thank you for your reply and anything further if I'm "out to lunch" on my interpretation of your message Edited March 19 by SnowTiger SnowTiger AMD Ryzen 9 7950X - Zen 4 16-Core 4.5 GHz - Socket AM5 - 170W Desktop Processor ASUS ROG STRIX X670E-A GAMING WIFI 6E Socket AM5 (LGA 1718) Ryzen 7000 gaming motherboard Geforce RTX 4090 Gaming Trio X - 24GB GDDR6X + META Quest 3 + Controllers + Warthog Throttle, CH Pro Pedals, VKB Gunfighter MKII MCG Pro G.SKILL Trident Z5 Neo Series 64 GB RAM (2 x 32GB) 288-Pin PC RAM DDR5 6000 RAM

It's listed like the UI Layer/General among the modules, and I think it starts with a C. Just browse through all the modules in the Controls Settings, and you'll find it. Maybe it's "Command something". 9 minutes ago, SnowTiger said: sound like IF I'm in VR and in a cockpit Works both for flatscreen and VR. Read above. It has its own section like it's a seperate module. If you both find this, it's pretty easy to map them. It is only four bindings available. It works sort of like the George/Petrovich mappings. Map a hat, to the corresponding mappings, press ok. Open the radio menu, and browse it. It was long requested, and suddenly we had it. But not given much attention in the changelog/newsletter, so it wasn't really noticed by most users, including me. I read it, and forgot about it, because I'm using VAICOM in any case, while it is very handy, because you do save a hat switch. 1

The Toggle VR Zoom in the UI Layer is global, so will be your VR zoom button for all modules, pretty sure all the controls set in the UI Layer, (unless anyone knows different?), are global - such as Pause & Active Pause, so the Options Window is showing all the individual modules you have used that button for a different function, I think that within those individual modules' Control options that button's setting will have a red exclamation mark. I only use VR so don't know if that is merely a warning or would cause any issues, perhaps someone else may be able to confirm? 1
Jimmy8x Posted March 25 Posted March 25 the VR zoom binds could really use some attention and could be improved. I would like to be able to zoom in a much smaller amount than the 'toggle vr zoom' bind, let alone the crazy spyglass zoom. 1 5800X3D | 64GB DDR4 3600 | RTX 4090 + Varjo Aero VR | F-16, F-15E, F-18
