Almost unresponsive game.

The problem I am about to decribe has been with me for a while. Just waited until reaching the boiling point.

DCS startup goes normal. No error messages, no warnings.

Once the main menu is up, mouse rolls normal, but menu buttons color reaction to mouse pointer overlay is delayed sometimes by 2 seconds.

So in order to select anything I need to point the mouse pointer to the menu option, wait until it is highlighted, and only then press the mouse button.

Once started in the mission the whole thing freezes. Like that. No reaction to keyboard dtrokes, no reaction to mouse. The games just stays right where the mission started. A thing to point out is the mouse symbol and color change, when I hover them over buttons or selectors for example - the pointer turns green and changes symbol the moment I hover it over. But pressing or changing does not affect anything.

There is no reaction to Alt+F4 press. I have to change windows and quit out of game using "Close window" command.

My PC is a notebook with plenty of horsepower under the keyboard. I tried to play with Videocard power management to no avail.

The situation described started to show up somewhere in the middle of january and still goes on. There is even more. At some point, the GAME decides to behave normal and works ok! About once in two days. Could not distinguish any particular conditions when such happens.

No mods, Latest updates and recently repaired.

I am running out of guesses.

I've dropped your log into the DCS log analyser which had the following to say. Note that your preload radius is 100000 and is really high for the amount of RAM you have. This will be loading a lot of unnecessary stuff when the mission loads.

  • Set Preload Radius to 30000
  • Disable civil traffic
  • Upgrade your RAM to at least 16 GB to play DCS multiplayer.
  • Change your pagefile to at least 24576 MB (initial size). Create a single custom page file, remove any system managed ones, with Initial and Max values of 24576, click Set, Apply and restart your PC.
  • Ensure that Game Mode disabled
  • Ensure that Hardware accelerated GPU scheduling disabled

You also have the OH-6 gunner export hook installed. Remove this as has been known to cause performance issues. It doesn't look like you have the OH-6 mod anymore, but the export hook still exists in your Saved Games\DCS\Scripts\Hooks directory.

@sleighzy

Out of offered solutions, the one about export hook got me excited the most. I played this game since Flanker, but not very efficient at coding and programming.

So after reading your message my first action was to go to Saved Games\DCS\Scripts\Hooks folder and voila - there were two files, both associated with OH-6A gunner.

MOVED them to a different location, and... REJOICE!!! The game went to absolutely normal behaviour!!!

As of this second the problem seems to be solved!

Thank you, gentlemen, for a timely help and advice!
