Hi - can anyone help decipher this gobligook please 🙂

Only started in the last few weeks - screen freezes then eventually crashes.

Microsoft Windows 11 Home, Version 10.0.26100

I've dropped your logs into the DCS log analyzer which had the following to say:

There is a GPU-related error

  • Remove any overclocking from your GPU. Uninstall your GPU driver with DDU and install a clean one.

Some GPUs come with factory overclocking, so use something like MSI Afterburner to check for this and remove it if reinstalling your GPU driver doesn't resolve this.

This aligns with the massive amount of spam of

DX11BACKEND (9500): failed to create structed buffer. Reason: DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_REMOVED

See this DCS FAQ on this:

https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/support/faq/startup/#3312253

In addition to this:

Hot plug Events

  • Disable hot plug in your CONTROLS section.

It also states that you should turn off core isolation.

It also looks like you're running a version of DCS that is a few patches behind.

WARNING EDCORE (Main): CPU HAS PARKED LOGICAL CORES (this can be source of stuttering and reduced performance especially on hybrid CPUs with P/E-cores)

You should also turn off core parking.

Hi Thanks for looking.

I'm running the latest patch so not sure why it would say otherwise.

I thought I had Hot Plug off already but will check.

I have not overclocked the CPU but can look at the drivers.

No idea what core isolation is so doubt it is on.

What I find strange is I haven't changed any settings my end and this has only started since the last patch.

Yes first time i launched DCS after update it crashes loading a instant mission. After a few atempts i loaded my personal missions without issues. Didn´t tried to load instant mission again.

Something is not right.

This is on by default in Windows 11 (it didn't used to be in Windows 10). You can search for it in your Windows settings, Google should also have some steps for it.

As to the GPU overclocking, some GPUs come with factory overclocks, believe you can use MSI Afterburner to check for this as well. Hopefully just reinstalling the drivers works fine for you.

You should raise your own forum post, or take this to the Eagle Dynamics DCS Discord, instead of putting this on somebody else's post. Your problem sounds different. Also attach your DCS log files when a crash occurs so we can see what happened.

Thanks for your help so far, just running through your suggestions.

GPU overclocking and driver - not yet checked.

Disable Hot Plug - this was already off.

Core Isolation - this was already off.

Latest patch - this was already installed.

I appreciate I need to check the first point but why do you think it was reporting errors that did not exist?

Regards

I've gone back through your logs manually for the Disable Hot Plug reference. The log analyzer bases this on plug/unplug events, which normally occur when hotplugging is on and it constantly scans for new devices and sees them being plugged/unplugged. In your logs there is the following:

The log is then spammed with plugged/unplugged events for your "[SWD] [TV] Samsung 6 Series (40)" throughout it. I don't know what is triggering this on your system or how it is connected to your PC so you might need to look into that.

Constant plug/unplug events can cause performance issues and stuttering in the game. Sometimes this can be caused if these devices are connected via USB but don't have enough power, e.g. need a powered hub, or if power management isn't disabled for the USB controller in device manager which means it can causes them to sleep/awake.

The log analyzer lists a couple of items that may or may not be an overall issue, the core isolation one I think falls into that bucket, as a suggestion for looking at, it can't confirm if that it actually the case but raises it for awareness.

The crash is definitely GPU related however based on the results.

Thanks - the TV and printer are connected wirelessly but maybe I will ensure they are turned off.

I do have items plugged in via USB, joystick, throttle mouse etc so will check for loose connections, pretty sure I set the power management appropriately but will check.

Thanks again for your help.

The log is still completely spammed with video card issues.

2025-03-30 18:25:46.413 ERROR DX11BACKEND (19400): Can't map structured buffer.

From the log analyzer as well:

There is a GPU-related error

  • Remove any overclocking from your GPU. Uninstall your GPU driver with DDU and install a clean one.

You said previously that you hadn't checked this but you were going to. Did you DDU your drivers and reinstall it? Did you also check for overclocks? Check also with MSI Afterburner to see if there is a factory overclock on the video card.

Additional items:

  • Disable Core Parking.
  • Verify that this is configured correctly in Windows:
    • Game Mode disabled
    • Hardware accelerated GPU scheduling disabled
    • Core Isolation disabled

Additional tuning advice

  • Disable Tacview for performance reasons.
  • Consider using DLAA.
  • Enable Full Screen mode.
