ggoodavish Posted March 30 Posted March 30 I played DCS before this latest update with high settings, with no problems. After the update, I am now getting 83% of my memory being used by DCS, which results in massive lags. Makes it unplayable. I have a 3.2 GB speed computer, with 32GB of RAM and a Nvidia RTX 4090 video card. I should not be having these problems. The only way I can play now is turning all settings to low, which makes somewhat blurry cockpit textures, poor clouds, etc. Not real happy about latest update. What changed, and how can I fix this? With my computer, I should not be having these problems. Please spell out steps if you respond, so I know where to find the files, etc you will likely refer to. Thanks for your help. Here are my specs: Device name Greg Processor Intel(R) Core(TM) i9-14900KF 3.20 GHz Installed RAM 32.0 GB (31.7 GB usable) Device ID BCB37B76-249F-415F-8AD0-689F893D8758 Product ID 00342-21333-28717-AAOEM System type 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor Pen and touch No pen or touch input is available for this display
sleighzy Posted March 30 Posted March 30 (edited) Attach your C:\Users\username\Saved Games\DCS\Logs\dcs.log file (may just be a text document named “dcs” if Windows is hiding file extensions). 32gb RAM is not a lot. Add a custom page to your fastest SSD (only one page file, remove all others, eg Windows system managed ones) with Initial and Max values of 32768 click Apply, Ok, and restart your PC. You definitely shouldn’t have problems with those specs. I’m assuming no VR as you didn’t mention it. What problem are you actually experiencing? ggoodavish Posted April 2 Author Posted April 2 I saw another post about not starting DCS as an administrator after the latest update. I started it without administrator rights, and now it works great. No more massive lags, even with high settings. I am happy again! Not sure why administrator rights when starting cause this, but oh well, working well again. 2 1
BJ55 Posted April 2 Posted April 2 @ggoodavish Curiosity: how's the RAM usage without running as admin? I7-12700F, 64GB DDR4 XMP1 3000MHz, Asus Z670M, MSI RTX 3070 2560x1440 60Hz, TIR 5, TM WH VPC base, TM rudder, Win10 Pro
ggoodavish Posted April 3 Author Posted April 3 Went from 83% to 70%, with 7GB used. I have 32GB RAM, so those numbers don't look right, but heh, it works good, so not complaining.

It might look for files/settings that your user don't have access to or doesn't exist, because it's looking for them in the administrator profile, which you're not currently logged into.

So depending on which mission you are running, SP or MP, problems can be expected. Personally I upgraded from 32 to 64GB 5 years ago, and I'm glad I did. Some people on these forums have 128GB of RAM, and while that is likely (hopefully) overkill for at least the next few years, I admit I am considering it as well for when I upgrade next time. 1 Spoiler Ryzen 9 5900X | 64GB G.Skill TridentZ 3600 | Asus ProArt RTX 4080 Super | ASUS ROG Strix X570-E GAMING | Samsung 990Pro 2TB + 960Pro 1TB NMVe | VR: Varjo Aero Pro Flight Trainer Puma | VIRPIL MT-50CM2 grip on VPForce Rhino with Z-curve extension | Virpil CM3 throttle | Virpil CP2 + 3 | FSSB R3L | VPC Rotor TCS Plus base with SharKa-50 grip | Everything mounted on Monstertech MFC-1 | TPR rudder pedals OpenXR | PD 1.0 | 100% render resolution | DCS graphics settings
