Concerning the CP/G - George AI - CMBT Mode (short press)

UP=TADS LOS... (aligns nose of bird to TADS crosshair location)

LEFT= DIR-TO... (what is this exactly???) please explain!

RIGHT= MODE CHANGE

You've got it mixed- short left is mode change, short right is DIR-TO.  DIR-TO means that helicopter will turn towards your currently selected waypoint. If you have no waypoint, DIR-TO will do nothing.
