I have been trying to fly some missions on the ah64 with the latest patch but I keep crashing to desktop and no crash log is produced by dcs.  This can be 5 minutes into a mission or 40.  Completely random, not pushing any buttons, just flying straight and level.  I have done the log analyzer and have been following all the advice given which I have pasted below.  Is there anyone else out there having random crashes after this week's patch?  I am running on nvidia driver 566.36.  I have attached my log.  Thank you!

  • Game Mode disabled,
  • Hardware accelerated GPU scheduling disabled,
  • Core Isolation disabled

hello. the log you shared does not indicate a crash. is there another set of logs (a zip file)? do you get a message stating the dcs crashed? it  could be windows killing the process. check event viewer for anything at the time dcs closed.

No crash log.  I am seeing some other posts that crashing to desktop is occurring with others.  Will wait to see if there is a fix.

People’s DCS can crash to desktop for numerous reasons. If Windows is killing the process then it may be machine specific and something wrong with your PC. In which case there may not be a game fix. Run the Windows DxDiag tool, save the report, and attach it here as well.

The log analyzer also had more items than the ones you listed there, eg turning off SSAO and SSLR, setting shadows to medium, etc. It also shows you have a custom mod. Have you removed all these mods, run a slow repair of the game, and deleted your Saved Games\DCS\fxo and metashaders2 folders as well?

I will wait.  My machine went from running dcs crash free to randomly crashing right after the patch.  I know about the log analyzer advice and have been following it for months.  I don’t run mods.

I ran a slow repair, erased metashaders and fxo again to see if anything changed.  I had a crash after 5 minutes into a mission with the AH64D.  I am attaching my dcs log again (no crash report).  Also attaching DxDiag just in case it helps coders figure out what is causing the crash as I would like to be able to play the game again.  I finally dcs.log-20250606-180325.zipgot a crash log!

got a crash log!

got it. it looks like the display driver is having an issue. you have the rolled back driver suggested by ED. so... i have a newer driver and am not having any problems.

in the log, just before the crash there are these lines.

2025-06-06 18:00:49.746 INFO    DXGUI_WIN_ADAPTER (Main): ChangeDisplaySettings failed! Result is -1

I experience the same thing with Nvidia 576.52. After the latest DCS patch...it's a matter of time, you just don't know how much time. No crash in DCS log, app hangs. When the app is windowed (while playing VR), i can usually sit it out and get control over windows in a few minutes. In full screen mode....automatic reboot (no BSOD).

Following on from silverdevil's comments if the installing a clean newer driver doesn't work then remove any overclocks on the GPU. Some GPU's come with a factory overclock so you can check that with MSI Afterburner. More info from the DCS log analyzer, looks like a number of issues identified in the DxDiag report, some of them video card related.

Windows Error Reporting (WER)

Your system crashes with Bluescreens.

The following kernel-events have been detected:

VIDEO_ENGINE_TIMEOUT_DETECTED,VIDEO_DXGKRNL_LIVEDUMP,IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL,PFN_LIST_CORRUPT,KERNEL_SECURITY_CHECK_FAILURE

  • Remove any overclocking (including XMP).
  • Run SFC and DISM to check your Windows.
  • Check for any updates of your BIOS or chipset drivers.

Application Errors

DCS.exe: was hung and killed, c00000fd (edCore.dll)

There is a GPU-related error

  • (Re-)install the latest GPU drivers. Don't overclock your GPU or RAM.

For the SFC and DISM checks open a command prompt as administrator and run the below two commands separately and then restart your PC.

dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth

sfc /scannow

Some additional performance tuning tips from the log analyzer as well.

  • Set Water to Medium or Low.
  • Set Shadows to Medium.
  • Turn off SSAO.
  • Turn down Anisotropic Filtering.
  • Turn off SSLR.

Advice

Verify that this is configured correctly in Windows:

  • Game Mode disabled
  • Hardware accelerated GPU scheduling disabled
  • Core Isolation disabled
