Volator Posted June 25 Posted June 25 (edited) There are several issues with taxiway lights at Holzdorf AB: Edited August 17 by Volator 1 1 1./JG71 "Richthofen" - Seven Eleven
Volator Posted August 17 Author Posted August 17 Most misplaced taxiway lights have been corrected, thank you Ugra @MAESTR0 However, one area close to runway threshold 09 remains where there are misplaced taxiway lights: 1./JG71 "Richthofen" - Seven Eleven
Volator Posted August 17 Author Posted August 17 The ramp at Holzdorf is too small. The so-called "Vorstartlinie (VSL)" was much larger to provide space for many jets, as you can see on this areal photo from the late 1980s/early 1990s: 1 1./JG71 "Richthofen" - Seven Eleven
Volator Posted September 18 Author Posted September 18 (edited) Something that interestingly enough has not been reported yet (nobody doing night flights?!) is that the airbases in East Germany are missing the runway lighting trucks (see Caucasus airbases). According to the East German Airforce regulations, these had to be available at all airbases. You can see them in this video recorded at Holzdorf (plus a MiG-21 taking off on the grass runway of the airbase): It would be cool if these lights were added and could be active at night when aircraft are taking off and landing, just like on Caucasus. Bremspropeller Posted September 18 Posted September 18 (edited) You're bringing up an interesting point here: Grass ops (9mins into the video). LSK used to do night grass runway ops as well - for their higher-qualified pilots. If those lighting trucks would be placeable objects, we could do that as well. ...and probaly scare ourselves enough to never try it again... ================================================ I assume the ops at 1:33 in the video are on the aux runway just next to the NE shelter-roundelle? null Edited September 18 by Bremspropeller 2 So ein Feuerball, JUNGE!
Bremspropeller Posted September 18 Posted September 18 The inner markers are scary tall - certainly at Holzdorf! With three reds on the PAPI you can almost reach out an touch the antenna. Yes, the grass strip and aux strip are working fine in the 29 2 So ein Feuerball, JUNGE!
