MitchPS Posted June 28 Posted June 28 What selections should be made in order to be able to activate/release flares and chaff countermeasures?
Slippa Posted June 28 Posted June 28 There’s a switch and some settings for countermeasures on the left panel beside your left elbow. You’ll have to bind them in controls too. I can’t be more specific as I’m not around it atm so have a look.
Zabuzard Posted June 28 Posted June 28 The CMS settings are split between both cockpits, always on the left console aft though. The WSO sets the master mode for chaff and flare individually to either: OFF, SINGLE or PROGRAM.If set to PROGRAM, they will do what the pilot has set up on the program settings on his panel. Both have a dispense button that dispenses whatever the WSO has selected as master modes.Additionally the pilot has a FLARE override switch that allows him to activate flares even if the WSO disabled them.Details in the manual. That's all there is to it :) 2
diego999 Posted June 28 Posted June 28 Alternatively, you can ask Jester to take care of launching countermeasures himself. From what I've tested, he seems to be pretty decent at the job. 2
Zabuzard Posted June 28 Posted June 28 Yup. He will run with what you set him up with though. Like, you should still know the interface in your and his cockpit so when he presses the dispense switch it releases what you think is meaningful. Especially in terms of "program", as that is fully configured in the pilots cockpit :) 1
RedeyeStorm Posted July 4 Posted July 4 I did notice when I tell Jester flares off and press the cm launch button that a single flare pops as well. I would expect no flares at all.
Zabuzard Posted Friday at 07:53 AM Posted Friday at 07:53 AM (edited) Doublecheck the flares switch on your left console, around the fuel panel. This is an override switch for the pilot that forces the flares on, regardless of what the WSO set. Otherwise a track file would be great to see whats going on, thanks Edited Friday at 07:54 AM by Zabuzard
RedeyeStorm Posted Saturday at 08:22 AM Posted Saturday at 08:22 AM @Zabuzard will make a track. The behaviour I expect is that with Jester flares Off and the overwrite switch NOT on the flare postion that no flares should be launched. Mayby that assumption is wrong?

Can you hop into the backseat and check if his flares knob is actually in OFF? Otherwise yeah, a track would be super helpful. Thanks 1
RedeyeStorm Posted Saturday at 07:31 PM Posted Saturday at 07:31 PM Oke two tracks attached. One is a air start the other is a cold start. I found that Jester does not set his switches correct when on the ground with cold start. When I use the wheel when airborn he does do it correctly. Phantom chaffflare cold start.trk Phantom chaffflare air start.trk

Phantom chaffflare cold start.trk Phantom chaffflare air start.trkPossibly he sets it but then later in the flow is a moment where his logic tells him to set it to on, perhaps after takeoff. That would explain it because the wheel action is momentary and not "put into his memory".So in this case the code would at least behave as expexted, but understandable that this leads to confusion.Similar to how he will activate the radar once airborne even if you told him on ground to shut it down. Because at that trigger point his logic tells him to prepare the aircraft for flight. 1
Stickler Posted Monday at 05:51 AM Posted Monday at 05:51 AM Unless there has been an undocumented change since 2.9.13.6818, it should be noted that Jester does not currently dispense countermeasures as set on the F/C panel, but in an apparently random fashion. See here.
Cat107 Posted 17 hours ago Posted 17 hours ago Hi, thanks for your feedback, we analysed the current Jester logic and it wasn't working exactly as intended. We adjusted it and now Jester will press the dispense button several times in short span using current CCU settings if he spots a missile visually and if he detects RWR launch warning, he will do the same but he will temporarily disable flares before that (not to waste flares for radar-guided threat). Should be included in the next update 2
