Nascar Posted July 13 Posted July 13 I'm just reporting that I went from a 9900k with DDR4 3600 64GB to a 9800x3d with DDR5 6000 64GB. No FPS gain in a Reverb G2. They say the 24h2 gives AMD gains, but I am stuck in 23h2 to keep the Reverb working until the Pimax Super shows up. LucShep Posted July 14 Posted July 14 (edited) DCS VR is extremely demanding (increasingly so with continuous updates bringing higher and higher detailed content), even on the most performant systems. What graphics card in use? It looks like you're severely GPU limited, and the new faster CPU+RAM combo is not making noticeable difference because it's being restricted by that. Even if just for a test, try to reduce settings that are GPU demanding (ones that increase GPU usage - avoid having it completely exhausted at or near 100%). Once the GPU usage is decreased, then you should see some difference for sure. diego999 Posted July 14 Posted July 14 If you're playing in VR using the 2080ti by your signature, then no, that GPU is barely capable, so no matter what CPU you use or how much ram you throw at it, that old graphics card is severely holding you back.

In my brief experience with an RX 7900XTX, it runs DCS pretty darn well at 4K resolution, on a 2D screen (monitor or TV). But it was not all that great for DCS VR (go figure, my older RTX 3090 performed better than it, IIRC). The 7900XT that you have is identical to the 7900XTX, albeit a little less powerful (~15% difference). If VR is your aim, and you're planning for a new GPU then I'd strongly suggest aiming for an Nvidia GPU, either RTX 5070Ti or, if budget allows, an RTX 5080. Nvidia still performs much better than AMD in VR. For DCS VR, I'd say a "decent minimum" for latest versions of DCS is an RTX 4070Ti Super 16GB and, on a better time, I'd say to get one from the second-hand market.... ....the problem is, even there all Nvidia GPUs are overpriced! If you can wait, the upcoming RTX 50 series "SUPER" refresh with considerably higher VRAM (18GB and 24GB) should be announced some months from now. Something like an RTX 5070Ti Super should be a considerable upgrade for VR then, and even more so the RTX 5080 Super (but at higher prices, of course...). Nascar Posted July 15 Author Posted July 15 I'm happier with AMD and average 50-60 frames with 1.3 pixel density. Nvidia isn't that much better if you don't use DLSS or ray tracing. Neither of which I care about for VR. I won't support their pricing nonsense and hate how frequently they update drivers for things I don't care about. AMD Adrenalin is much better than GeForce Experience, in my opinion. 1 Thermaltake Core P90 Tempered Glass//Thermaltake iRGB Plus 1200W//GIGABYTE Z390 AORUS MASTER LGA 1151//9800x3d//Thermaltake CL420 Copper Radiator//Thermaltake W4 Plus//Jungle Leopard Prism 140mm//Samsung 1TB 970 EVO NVMe M2//SAMSUNG 970 EVO M.2 500GB //G.SKILL Trident Z5 Neo RGB Series//Asrock 7900xt//Logitech G940//Virpil MT50 Throttle//MFG Crosswind rudder pedals//Geko GSeat//Gametrix Jetseat//Reverb G2//Viril VFX//Razer Nari Ultimate

Dumb me didn't read the title. Anyway, as despicable as Nvidia is, their GPUs just work better in VR compared to AMD. A while ago, there was a severe stuttering issue with AMD cards in VR, it was eventually resolved, but performance still isn't quite there. Another issue is DCS itself. With certain unit quantities and combinations, the engine will choke regardless of the hardware you're running, especially bad with MRLS or artillery in large numbers. 1
TED Posted July 19 Posted July 19 I'm using a 7900xtx and 9800x3d and it's been stellar. I get a solid 90fps with my quest pro and VD low level in f16 in Afghanistan. Most dcs settings maxed except shadpws. PD 1.1 and VD godlike. It looks great, clear and sharp with no stutters. If u are having issues with this setup then look at your tuning. 1
