Add FSR4 to DCS ( current methods are severely insufficient for AMD users )

With the new series of AMD GPU's which exploded in popularity AMD users have been in desperate need of FSR4 because the current options are between TAA which makes everything blurry and MSAA which has a massive performance hit and is very inefective. Giving us FSR4 would allow AMD users to have an equivalent of DLSS4 and an actually viable antyaliasing/upscaling technique. It would help greatly and i assume it would be relatively easy to implement since we already have a version of FSR in game however it is unusable because of how ancient it is.

As a nVidia gpu owner that wants options in the (near) future, also there should be FSRAA in the sim.

I use DLAA and it is much superior to DLSS as that one wrecks image quality.

FSRAA is analogue to DLAA. Both doesn't downscale the image while looking better than MSAA 4x, but with a bit of ghosting, and having the weight of MSAA turned off.

You guys should be pushing for FSRAA as well.

There have been plenty of threads about this exact same wish/topic (they seem to be sprouting up every few weeks), and ED has already provided the answer to it.

I agree with the call for FSR 4 - however, for those that are not in the know, I've had good success with Optiscaler to force better FSR via hijacking the DLSS options in DCS.

yeah i already tried FSR4 via optiscaler however i face an issue where reshade wont work when i use optiscaler. If you could help me get reshade and optiscaler to work id appreciate it

They both use the same file to hook into DCS, so to have them working simultaneously, you need to move the reshade files to the bin/plugins folder. The easiest way is to create a "mod" for reshade to quickly install/uninstall using a mod manager, since you need to do this after DCS updates

First we need to start with a clean DCS install:

  1. If you already use a mod manager, remove all installed mods from the game install directory
  2. Search "Repair" in Windows start menu to repair DCS
  3. Select the "slow" and "search extra files" options

Now that we have a vanilla DCS install, download, install and setup ReShade to your liking

  1. Now run DCS repair again, but with "fast" and "search extra files" options
  2. This will find all the reshade files and give you the option to Delete/Move/Keep those files
  3. Select Move and the tool will move all the reshade files to the .../DCS World/backupXX/ folder (the folder with the highest no.)
  4. Create a ReShade_vXXXX/bin/plugins folder in your mod manager's library folder
  5. Copy the contents of .../DCS World/backupXX/bin folder to ReShade_vXXXX/bin/plugins folder
  6. Run DCS repair again, with "fast" and "search extra files" options to clean out ReShade

Install OptiScaler according to their wiki instructions

  1. Now run DCS repair again, but with "fast" and "search extra files" options
  2. This will find all the OptiScaler files and give you the option to Delete/Move/Keep those files
  3. Select Move and the tool will move all the reshade files to the .../DCS World/backupXX/ folder (the folder with the highest no.)
  4. Create a OptiScaler_vXXXX folder in your mod manager's library folder
  5. Copy the contents of .../DCS World/backupXX/folder to OptiScaler_vXXXX/ folder

So now you have "mods" for both ReShade and OptiScaler. Since OptiScaler is already installed, install the ReShade mod, and it will get installed to .../DCS World/bin/plugins
