Monitor resolution setting for VR

I am waiting on my PCL being delivered and am researching setup information. Question I have is what does the DCS monitor resolution setting do as it has no effect (I don't think but stand to be corrected) on the headset.

If it is only for the monitor surely setting it very low would reduce load on GPU?

It only affects the resolution of the monitor.

My understanding is that reducing the resolution has such minimal benefits that it's not even recommended.

There is zero advantage to setting a low monitor resolution.

No, because the monitor just acts like a repeater of your VR headset. There's nothing extra being rendered.

We've tested this. It makes no difference.

The only advantage to using a lower resolution is if you want to have a windowed mirror rather than full screen. I set mine to 1080 with a 1440 monitor. It has no effect on performance.

If you have a large monitor and it's close filling much of the forward view it's advantageous to set it small so as not to interfere with the inside tracking.  Big bright sudden scenery changes from a moving flight simulation won't help you get steady tracking.

How exactly would I do that.  My monitor native res is 3840x2160. What would I set in DCS to help with steady tracking.

In your game settings set the resolution as small as possible.  It'll open the game on desktop in a small window, all you need for VR.

Hmm. I have a 46" monitor about a meter in front of me, with full-screen mirror and my Super has been tracking flawlessly so far.

You can go as small as 1028x768, you just have to manually input it. It's what I use.
