CrazyGman Posted 21 hours ago Posted 21 hours ago I'm really enjoying the MiG-29, but I think some people need to realize that there are still a few missing features when it comes to the IRST, radar, and helmet-mounted sight. Currently, the COOP switch in the MiG-29 is non-functional. With it enabled, the two sensors are supposed to work together: depending on which sensor you’re using, the other will automatically slave to it. This means you should be able to lock a target with the IRST, and then have the radar lock as well, without needing to manually switch sensors and relock the target. As for the helmet-mounted sight, right now you need to achieve a target lock first, and only then will your IR missiles slave to it. However, according to the manual, by using the helmet-mounted sight and holding the lock-on button, the missiles should be able to target directly, irrespective of whether a lock has been achieved through the optical locator laser station or the radar. 2
Gate Posted 8 hours ago Posted 8 hours ago Well said! I’m having a ton of fun with this module as well and I’m very excited for the rest of the capabilities to be released (especially IFF lol). I didn’t know the COOP switch was unfunctional, my dumbass has been flipping it on during fence-in every flight.

I have noticed that when you switch to the HMD, the radar lamp on the front right panel turns off. It seems like the radar is deactivated in this mode.

Unless the coop switch is on...but currently it's none functioning, so your radar turns off. It's usefull if you want to do silent intercepts. In ideal circumstances with GCI datalink working your attack would look as such. You would be guided to the target by GCI datalink, that would give you steering cues, ranges and a icon on the hud where the target is. All without turning on your radar. Once you get close you can then potentially use the IRST to continue to lock the target with the irst sensor, which will auto slave to the datalink target while still not turning on your radar and alerting the enemies RWR. At the last second you switch on the coop switch which turns on and slaves the radar to the datalink and IRST lock target, and then fire. 1
primus_TR Posted 6 hours ago Posted 6 hours ago Oh, I thought when you said "you need to achieve a target lock first," you meant a radar lock. My bad.
Danzig Posted 1 hour ago Posted 1 hour ago with the coop switch funtioning , it will be possible to handover a HMD lock to the radar missles?

With COOP, HMS, first sensor to lock is primary. But both will lock when possible anyhow. If you get HMS lock more then 30 degree from nose, guaranteed to be radar lock only with COOP.
