CoolCat74 Posted October 23 Posted October 23 (edited) Hello all, I flew the first time today since yesterday's patch. Unfortunately the new update seems to have messed up George CPG. When I order him to scan the TADS FWD area, he only searches in the near vicinity of the helicopter (estimated 300m) and even there he doesn't find any target. I attached the last mission, where I have to protect an convoy. There you can see his range of checking and that he doesn't recognize even the friendly convoy. Maybe, I'm doing something wrong? I do the startup (TSD, FLT, Boresight) from the pilot's side and after that, I give order George CPG to do hist startup. Whrn he has finished, I start the enginges one by one and takeoff, when the alignment is ready. Best regards, Cat P.S.: I have another mission in Afghanistan, where George behaves the same. ED Team BIGNEWY Posted October 23 ED Team Posted October 23 Hi Cat, can you create a shorter track, maybe with a hot start aircraft. When we take control of your track it seems to behave correctly. Need to remember George isn't almighty and all seeing. Searching with TADS while in motion just sets George to look optically for distinct targets against scenery. It's not like a radar locking into things behind walls. The infantry targets you are scanning for are also hidden by trees slightly so it will be more difficult to spot them in cover. CoolCat74 Posted October 23 Author Posted October 23 Hi Bignewy, thank you for your fast answer. I'll do a short mission to test it an will upload the track. Is it possible to adjust the range George is scanning in front of Apache? BR, Cat
CoolCat74 Posted October 23 Author Posted October 23 (edited) Here's is the Track. This time, he found the trucks I placed at an open spot, but only when I was almost over them. Any AAA would have shot me down within this range. It seems as if George only scans in the near forward range. LastMissionTrack.trk Edited October 25 by CoolCat74
CoolCat74 Posted Saturday at 11:54 AM Author Posted Saturday at 11:54 AM Am I the only one with this problem in the Apache? Was shot down twice because George wasn't able to find AAA on open field, so it doesn't make sense for me to fly without a human CPG. Just found a thread about Petrovich in the Hind which says that he seems to be blind, too. Maybe there's a connection between the problems?
Floyd1212 Posted Saturday at 04:42 PM Posted Saturday at 04:42 PM Make a short track from an Instant Action mission where George isn't seeing targets and post it here. In general, my George will often spot enemies that he shouldn't be able to, more than not being able to spot them at all. 1

Floyd1212 Posted Sunday at 03:02 PM Posted Sunday at 03:02 PM Oh, sorry. I missed that you followed up with a shorter track. I checked your track and George is definitely scanning closer to the aircraft that what I was expecting. Normally he scans the horizon, or close to it. I fired up an Instant Action mission on Afghanistan and got the same results. So I checked multiple maps, establishing a hover at the same altitude AGL, and grabbed screenshots showing where on the horizon George will scan when prompted. My guess would be that his scanning algorithm is using MSL altitude to figure out how far out to scan from the aircraft, and in the mountains of Afghanistan this results in a more exaggerated look-down angle, and he ends up scanning closer to the aircraft than desired. @BIGNEWY Can you confirm whether George uses MSL or AGL altitude when figuring out where to scan relative to the horizon? 1

I will ask the team to take a look, it seems the choice between AGL and MSL needs a tweak. thank you Forum rules - DCS Crashing?
