Bowie Posted November 4 Posted November 4 (edited) F4U DevGru - Tail Hook Inoperative w/ Gear Up Neither keybind nor mouse (no activation 'green' symbol) Works fine with both w/ the gear down. Bowie Edited November 4 by Bowie
gabuzomeu Posted November 4 Posted November 4 From the manual, you need tail wheel extended to be able to extend the hook.: Details: Asus Z-170E, Intel i5-6600K @ 4.2GHz, 16GB RAM MSI GTX970 Gaming 4G Win 10 Home
Art-J Posted November 4 Posted November 4 Unlike the Hellcat, Corsair didn't feature a hook which could slide out of the fuselage, it was part of tail wheel assembly and could only pivot up and down. Thus, with gear up it is physically impossible to lower the hook because tailwheel doors are closed (plus, I think wheel strut might be in the way, I'd have to check the drawings to confirm). i7 9700K @ stock speed, single GTX1070, 32 gigs of RAM, TH Warthog, MFG Crosswind, Win10.
Saxman Posted November 4 Posted November 4 (edited) Here is the tail hook of an F4U. Note that it's attached to the tail wheel strut assembly. When the landing gear are in the "Up" or "Brake" position, the tail wheel is raised and the tail wheel doors are closed. Despite that little notch exposing the hook, the doors (and the tail wheel itself) prevent the tail hook from being lowered. Edited November 4 by Saxman 2
Bowie Posted November 4 Author Posted November 4 (edited) Thanks for the education. Was confused by the Landing Pattern nomenclature. "...pass over the carrier, starboard side, at 150 kts/300 ft, hook down..." Since the tail wheel comes down first, and fast, it's 'gear down' command, pause, 'hook, down' command, 'tail wheel, unlock' command. Couple of seconds. Thanks. Bowie Edited November 4 by Bowie
