svedan Posted 7 hours ago Posted 7 hours ago Why is the image quality so different when using the AGM-65D on the F-16 compared to the A-10? The F-16’s image appears significantly worse, making target identification quite difficult. I’ve attached two comparison screenshots, both taken at the same targets and from the same distance. 2

The F-16’s image appears significantly worse, making target identification quite difficult. I’ve attached two comparison screenshots, both taken at the same targets and from the same distance. One is closer to the real image (F16) while the other is not (A10). Also, the same reason why the F16 has to boresight and the A10, F18, and anything else that uses the Maverick does not have to boresight. I'm guessing they are using the F16 as a test bed for these things and will eventually model it that way in the other aircraft. But they have to redo some code in the other aircraft to make it happen as far as the boresight goes. The image is something, I would imagine, won't be too difficult it is just on the standard DCS time frame of "soon". I can tell you that real world Maverick imaging is not that clear as you get in the A10. F16 = closer to realism, A10(others) = gamey for ease of use. 1 My PC: GPU-AMD 6800XT OC / CPU- AMD RYZEN 5800X OC / 32 GB RAM 3200Mhz / 1TB SSD / 2TB HDD / 500GB M.2 / Monitor: 34" Ultrawide Samsung 1000R Curve / WinWing F16EX HOTAS / TM Cougar MFDs / TM TPR Rudder Pedals / TrackIR5 / ICP

Oddly enough, it's been possible to boresight Mavericks in the A-10C for ages, the code is there and it works exactly as advertised. It's just that no one ever does it because our Mavericks are always perfectly boresighted when the jet is powered up, and even for the hardcore milsim people it's a bit hard to justify spending 2, 3, 4 minutes every single start-up for a process that's entirely unnecessary in DCS. And now I'm waiting to get mowed down by the truly hardcore milsimmers who actually boresight their Mavs every single time... 2 hours ago, svedan said: Why is the image quality so different when using the AGM-65D on the F-16 compared to the A-10? The A-10C has been feature complete for about 15 years, and the upgraded A-10C II module added some new features, but didn't touch existing stuff like the Mavericks. The much newer F-16 module naturally uses more recent features and technology. Would be nice if the image quality and the boresight requirement was more consistent, but there's other stuff in the A-10 that needs addressing, so if it was up to me, I'd rank this particular feature very low on the list of priorities. Still, good catch! Oh, one more thing: aren't the displays in the Viper a bit smaller than those in the A-10C? That might make at least a little bit of difference. Edited 5 hours ago by Yurgon
