Back when I was supposed to know what I was doing I used to be pretty tolerant, but there was one thing that a young squirt could do to piss me off and that was flying like an eager idiot. Most young and useless used to start off like that (hopefully they do it better now): they’re so focused on giving a good impression that they will spend a considerable portion of their fuel just to stay on your wing.

In DCS the wingman seems like a eager idiot someone have given four red bulls and probably some white powder as well: He’ll go full blower just to get back on your wing. Even if that means he’ll have more red bull in his vanes than go juice in his tanks when he gets to me.
He also flies as stupidly as possible when he gets there,

Any way to correct this? Is there for example I can give him on the F-keys that tells him to wind it back a bit and fly sensibly?

No, you cannot really directly influence his behaviour inflight.

But you can make his life a bit easier by flying more conservative. Don't go full power while waiting for him to rejoin. Make turns he can follow. Treat him like the idiot he is...

You just have to accept that the AI in the game are pretty much useless idiots and meant as eye candy and targets alone. The best AI can manage is flying orbits and transport routes. Once combat starts all bets are off as they will either blunder into the ground, fly full Zone 5 afterburner with airbrakes out in a dogfight then call bingo and eject 5 seconds later.

Thank you both. Really helpful!

Haha, I guess you’re right. I have noticed that there are a few low flying missions and they typically end up as lawn darts. I’ll make sure to treat them as the idiots they are. Though I wish the programmers at least would stop them going full blower just to get back on my wing. I never go to mil, just to make sure they have some room to manoeuvre, they should appreciate the curtesy.  😂
