There is just ERA yes but i wrote frontal to emphasize the penetration occurred in the most protected part of the tank where conventional armor is thickest and there is also ERA. You can imagine the effect of a side hit or a rear one.

APSs are are more weight/cost effective than ERA. There are many APS out there, some very sophisticated, like the jewish/american one, some very simple like the Ukrainian one with the 'poles' that stick out.
