Sabenza Posted September 7, 2009 Posted September 7, 2009 I just built my gaming rig for BS, Lockon & FSX: Win 7 64 bit, i7 920 (OC to 3.8G), Asus P6T Deluxe V2, XFX GTX295, 6G OCZ Platinum running at 1600MHz, WD 1TB SATA II, Antec 900 case, Cosair Power Supply HX850W, Saitek X52 Pro & Rudder, Logitech G15 v2. Everything appears to be running smoothly (except some quirks on the X52 Pro MFD). I am currently running the on board sound chip, but I have an old Creative X-Fi Platinum Fatal1ty Champion Series, which uses the old PCI type of slot. Is it worth buying a newer version such as the Creative PCI Express X-Fi Titanium Fatal1ty Pro Series, which uses PCI express? Or should I be looking at the Asus Xomar Series, which also uses PCI Express? Would I see improved performance with PCI Express? For compatibility with Win7 64 bit, should I stick with Creative or try Asus?
CAT_101st Posted September 7, 2009 Posted September 7, 2009 I am running a XFi gammer PCI with Win 7 64bit build 7100 and it sounds better than it does with my XP running on same system. Win 7 allows the full pontichel of the XFi card to be used. I would say save the mone and just run the one you have untill you do some more recherch or save up money and buy a PCI-E sound card. I would just stick with sound blaster if you buy another card. Home built PC Win 10 Pro 64bit, MB ASUS Z170 WS, 6700K, EVGA 1080Ti Hybrid, 32GB DDR4 3200, Thermaltake 120x360 RAD, Custom built A-10C sim pit, TM WARTHOG HOTAS, Cougar MFD's, 3D printed UFC and Saitek rudders. Maximus_G Posted September 7, 2009 Posted September 7, 2009 Would I see improved performance with PCI Express? That's a definite No! 1
Ivonq Posted September 7, 2009 Posted September 7, 2009 The old X-Fi is good, mate...you built a nice rig!
sweinhart3 Posted September 18, 2009 Posted September 18, 2009 Sound cards dont use up enough bandwidth take full advantage of pci-express. I personally just use onboard sound but external sound card is supposed to use less cpu resources Intel i7 990X, 6GB DDR3, Nvidia GTX 470 x2 SLI, Win 7 x64 http://picasaweb.google.com/sweinhart
