TKMR Posted September 18, 2009 Posted September 18, 2009 (edited) Is there some way to set a faction to neutral, or something of the sort? I'm attempting to create a mission in which there are car bombers that try to destroy a convoy you are tasked with escorting, but I've run into a problem I didn't even think about. Ground unites will engage any enemy unit that they see. If the car bombers are an enemy faction, they will be engaged and destroyed by the ground unites before he gets a chance to get close to the convoy. This would make the mission pretty pointless for the pilot. If the bombers are a friendly faction, you will be committing fratricide. I can't really think of a solution. I looked through the manual to see if there was any mention of this sort of thing, and didn't find one. Does anyone know of a way where I can accomplish this, or will I just have to scrap the mission? =/ Edited September 19, 2009 by TKMR Lead Admin/Founder of Kilo-Tango Gaming Community
MrReynolds Posted September 19, 2009 Posted September 19, 2009 Triggers and zones. Have a group of nasty car bombers inactive. no.4 car of friendly forces drives into blast zone = blow up unit 4 *** set flag 1 flag 1 true = activate group of nasty car bombers to run away Bring on your fire fight? *** you can tweak timing by setting time after flag = 5 seconds blow up unit. Hope you get your answer at some point
TKMR Posted September 19, 2009 Author Posted September 19, 2009 So if the group is inactive, they won't be engaged? That would be perfect for a roadside bomb. As the convoy begins to roll past (and you fail at spotting a randomly stopped vehicle in the road.... good job =P) big boom. But as soon as the group is active they will be engaged, correct? So if he is travelling (toward or away from the group), my BTR-80s will engage them, which doesn't leave much to the player. Unless I totally misunderstood you, which has been known to happen XD. 26-J39 Posted September 19, 2009 Posted September 19, 2009 I think the only way is to make the convoy that you are escorting vehicles that cannot return fire.
TKMR Posted September 20, 2009 Author Posted September 20, 2009 I think the only way is to make the convoy that you are escorting vehicles that cannot return fire. How frustrating... So much for my attempt to create a realistic convoy of units... EDIT: For some reason my fingers find it necessary to type an e in units, right after the T... Thought you all might find that amusing. =) Lead Admin/Founder of Kilo-Tango Gaming Community
MrReynolds Posted September 20, 2009 Posted September 20, 2009 well, i guess if the nasty bombers activated: a) out of line of sight from the convoy (behind a hill / building and ran away) b) after another 10-20 seconds when the convoy has moved on ...the player would have stuff to do.
TKMR Posted September 20, 2009 Author Posted September 20, 2009 Hmmm. Yeah. Do BTR-80s, and other APCs/Tanks/IFVs etc, "scan"? Or do they only have LoS in front of them/where the turret is pointing? Lead Admin/Founder of Kilo-Tango Gaming Community
