Doggy Posted November 12, 2009 Posted November 12, 2009 I found these rockets do nothing. There's even no explosion once they hit target. No 2 million candles iluminating area as written in the manual: "The S-8O and S-8OM are used for illumination of the target area. On impact they emit 2 million candles of visible light for 35 seconds." Am I doing something wrong? 159_Archer Posted November 12, 2009 Posted November 12, 2009 These do not work by impacting on the ground (if that's what you're doing) -they need to be fired at a reasonable altitude, preferably fired up so they climb a little. They will -after a shortish flight (cannot remember all the details now) where they deploy a flare on a chute. This then slowly descends giving a pretty good illumination to the area below. The use of these is described somewhere -sorry, will look later when I have time! STP Dragon Posted November 12, 2009 Posted November 12, 2009 You have to raise the nose to about 20 degrees in the nightsky before firing, to illuminate the targets in 7 km distance. Doggy Posted November 12, 2009 Author Posted November 12, 2009 Found it. This is much better explanation (from patch ReadMe): S-8OM – illumination rocket. Once fired, the rocket flies a ballistic trajectory. After 17 seconds, the nose section separates, a drag chute opens and the illumination flare begins to descend at a rate of 8.2 m/s. The flare burns for 35 seconds. The S-8O (OM) illumination rockets are designed to increase the effectiveness of aviation and other battlefield forces in nighttime conditions by providing artificial illumination of specific areas of the terrain. AldoUSMC Posted November 19, 2010 Posted November 19, 2010 S-80M illum and SAB 100 Illum in BS and FC2 Illumination works great in both Blackshark S-80M and LOMAC FC2 via SAB-100 Illumination bombs (rear ejecting case with 7 LUU-2B parachute flares). As a realism enhancement I would love to see an Eagle Dynamics Patch including (wish list) collisions turned on for the LUU-2B illumination shells and the rocket casing in FC2 and the S-80M carried by helicopters. Right now I can hover a KA-50 or fly a plane through the LUU-2Bs with no negative impacts to my aircraft. Second request I more important even is to allow the rounds to be fired on the deck (ground) for night marking of a point target. It is reasonable that if fired too close to the ground even the first LUU-2B would not be rear-ejected from the illumation bomb or an illumination rocket would be crushed before it lit off. In the case of the Illumination bomb I think it would be realistic if the falling LUU-2B hits the deck before the planned burn-out it burns out on the deck (ground) for how ever long the flare was supposed to burn. It would be acceptable if a water impact (river/lake/ocean) put out the flare. Semper Fi AldoUSMC Semper Fi AldoUSMC Intel i7-6700 CPU @ 4 GHz, 32 GB Ram, GeForce GTX 980 Ti, Windows 10 Pro -64 Bit
