Pilotasso Posted November 22, 2009 Posted November 22, 2009 (edited) Source please... I have AMD Phenom II X4 955 BE 3.2 GHz and I have no problems with LO AND I DONT HAVE A VID CARD!!!:joystick: Thats easy. FPS benchies (infact some sites do NOTHING but bench FPS's, its hard to find one with SIM's) http://www.anandtech.com/cpuchipsets/showdoc.aspx?i=3641&p=7 Another example: http://www.hardwarecanucks.com/forum/hardware-canucks-reviews/22151-intel-lynnfield-core-i5-750-core-i7-870-processor-review-17.html In the same article, throw in a heavy math CPU app and then: http://www.hardwarecanucks.com/forum/hardware-canucks-reviews/22151-intel-lynnfield-core-i5-750-core-i7-870-processor-review-12.html Look how different they suddenly are. And AMD stays at the bottom of the pack. Everybody knows LOMAC loves raw computing power, FPS's are all about graphics management, thats all theres to it. Thats why AMD stays close to Intel in FPS's benchies in the first 2 links. At the thrid they reveal their true CPU power (or lack of it) and differences accentuate between them. And BTW you cant play without a videocard (at the very least with onboard one) and Im sure if you tried some of the missions online would would see your PC be properly challenged. Its sad I owned 2 AMD systems back then when they were competitive (AMD T-bird and the first AMD 64's) but now they are playing entry level hardware battles with Intel only. Having said that dont feel sorry to have purchased your system. :D ;) You also pay a premium for intel machines. Edited November 22, 2009 by Pilotasso 1 .
GaryIKILLYOU Posted November 25, 2009 Posted November 25, 2009 I don't feel sorry as far as processor but MoBo yes. But I mean I dont have the money to squeez that extra tiny bit of preformance with a purchase that will have me paying for my PC long after its been replaced...:) My Specs:Win 10 Pro 64bit/ i7 6770K 4.5Ghz/32GB DDR4/ GTX 1070 SC/Samsung SSD Warthog Stick/TWCS Throttle/TrackIR 5
SAM77 Posted December 3, 2009 Posted December 3, 2009 Alright!!!!! I built my system last night and it wouldnt run win 7 64RC Man was i pissed after a whole evening of painstaking building. I woke up this morning still pissed. (I want to play BS!!!!!!) Finally got it workin in XP but RAM wouldnt run at 1066 Updated to latest bios and ram runs at 1066 :) Turned of floppy controller in bios and WIN 7 64 RC works :) (thank you RGONe at DFI forums) I tried AHCI in bios and WIN7 wont run :( Cant have it all :) Hard disk might be no good (WD800AAJS SATA II) for AHCI Just installed Saitek driver and controller is all good to go :) I never had to use a profile in XP so i am hoping it is the same for Win 7 Wish me luck my BS install is about to start :) Spoiler Intel i7 14700F | 64GB G.Skill Trident Z5 RGB | MSI RTX 4060 Gaming X 8G | WD Black SN770 2TB | Sound Blaster Audigy RX | MSI B760 Tomahawk WIFI | Thrustmaster T.16000M FCS Flight Pack | TrackIR 5 | Windows 11 Home |
GaryIKILLYOU Posted December 3, 2009 Posted December 3, 2009 You should definitally upgrade to Windows 7 HP because I don't see any more reasons for the more expensive editions... IMHO you can game and do everything else on HP just fine. :) My Specs:Win 10 Pro 64bit/ i7 6770K 4.5Ghz/32GB DDR4/ GTX 1070 SC/Samsung SSD Warthog Stick/TWCS Throttle/TrackIR 5
EtherealN Posted December 3, 2009 Posted December 3, 2009 Yeah, those "ultimate" style packages really are more "maximum bloat". Tonnes of functions that might sound real nice on paper but that you are almost guaranteed to never have a use for. It's all full of enterprise stuff that at best you didn't need but paid for anyway, and at worst it's stuff you paid for, never use, but that still slows down your system. IMHO you can game and do everything else on HP just fine. :) Not that it is a big deal at the moment but I read that HP only supports 16GB RAM where as Pro and Ultimate are able to 192GB ???? EtherealN Posted December 4, 2009 Posted December 4, 2009 If my own memory serves that is indeed true. However, if at some point you find yourself really-really wanting more RAM than that (and have purchased hardware that supports it) you can just use the Windows Anytime upgrade thing. topol-m Posted December 4, 2009 Posted December 4, 2009 I don`t see how you will ever need more than 16GB of ram not to speak of 192GB (you are not in NASA managing some habitable planets colonization I suppose :) ). By the time you will need more than 16GB RAM there most definitely will be other platforms (CPUs/MBs/RAM etc.) and the current high tech PC will be ancient. Oh and you`ll probably be using Windows 12 or something like that. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
EtherealN Posted December 4, 2009 Posted December 4, 2009 Nah, if there's any justice in the world he'll be using something like Debian 8... :P [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Daniel "EtherealN" Agorander | Даниэль "эфирныйн" Агорандер Intel i7 2600K @ 4.4GHz, ASUS Sabertooth P67, 8GB Corsair Vengeance @ 1600MHz, ASUS GTX 560Ti DirectCU II 1GB, Samsung 830series 512GB SSD, Corsair AX850w, two BENQ screens and TM HOTAS Warthog DCS: A-10C Warthog FAQ | DCS: P-51D FAQ | Remember to read the Forum Rules | | | Life of a Game Tester

When 4MB memory was the shit people were saying they didnt see how they would ever need more than that. I keep thinking that about video cards. My computer always ran fine using 256MB video cards but somehow 1GB+ is being pushed as resolutions increase. Moral of the story is enough is never enough lol. EtherealN Posted December 5, 2009 Posted December 5, 2009 sweinhart, the point lies in the note "the current high tech PC will be ancient". Basically, within the predictable lifespan of that computer, say 3 years, very weird things would have to happen for you to need more than 16GB. Especially since most consumer hardware today doesn't actually support more than that anyway. Your sig doesn't say which mainboard you have, but if it's like mine it's limit is 16GB (4x4GB) - and in a lot of cases that would even be at the cost of slower memory performance since many motherboards doesn't really have the bandwidth to support four sticks running at capacity. So the point is that when you end up wanting more than 16GB (which will indeed happen) you'll probably be purchasing a new computer anyway and most likely a new Windows license. (Note that OEM licenses usually do not allow you to transfer it to a new computer, that's why they're cheaper.) And if you are able to transfer the license, or have a non-OEM license, you can use Windows Anytime Upgrade to change your version of Windows7 to one that supports more memory. There will indeed never be a point where requirements stop growing, but hardware will end up being swapped along with it.
