paramara Posted December 12, 2009 Posted December 12, 2009 Hello I am having some serious problems flying over the mountains in this mission. I have tried about 15 times today and noe I am really tired of failing. The engines just shut down as i try to get over the mountains. What is the deal here? I am trying to avoid the rpm limit lights, but as I need to get above 4000m to get over the mountains I have to push the engines. Can anyone provide me the holy grail for success in this mission? Thanks!
AlphaOneSix Posted December 12, 2009 Posted December 12, 2009 Can anyone provide me the holy grail for success in this mission? Easy! Start climbing sooner. If you have to, start climbing immediately after takeoff. Maintain around 130 km/hr airspeed (from the Shkval or cockpit gauge, the ABRIS and HUD show groundspeed) for your best rate of climb. You can easily make 4000 meters without pushing the engines at all.

Panzertard Posted December 12, 2009 Posted December 12, 2009 - 130 kp/h (on the skval, not the hud) - thats your optimum climbs speed. - Enable all 4 anti ice switches. The mind is like a parachute. It only works when it's open | The important thing is not to stop questioning
EtherealN Posted December 12, 2009 Posted December 12, 2009 The holy grail is "airspeed". :) 130km/h indicated (not HUD speed, that's ground speed) gives you the best lift. Start climbing early and never go below that speed while climbing. If you find yourself not making it up in time - circle instead of slowing down. EDIT: hahah, that's what I get for being caught up in the movie. Grimes Posted December 12, 2009 Posted December 12, 2009 - Enable all 4 anti ice switches. The first time I flew this mission online both my squadmates and I forgot about this for not one, but two attempts at it. After then 2nd time of having all of our engines shut down and crash land in the foot hills in roughly the same area we got the idea that we had forgotten something. So yes, turning on the anti-ice switches is the moral of this story. The right man in the wrong place makes all the difference in the world. paramara Posted December 13, 2009 Author Posted December 13, 2009 Thanks for the inputs. I have no problems getting up to 4000 m and I have turned on rotor deice, but nothing else. Maybe I should try to look for the 3 other switches you mentioned. It seems that the engines shut down either if I manoveur to much or just as I cross over the mountain top. I will give it another try now and see how it turns out! Thanks
159th_Viper Posted December 13, 2009 Posted December 13, 2009 .....It seems that the engines shut down.... As they Should! By your Own Admission you have failed to flip the 'Engine De-Ice' switch. That switched on, coupled with the Pitot Heat sensors will sort your issues out :) Novice or Veteran looking for an alternative MP career? Click me to commence your Journey of Pillage and Plunder! paramara Posted December 13, 2009 Author Posted December 13, 2009 GREAT SUCCESS! This time I made it! It turned out as Viper pointed out that the engine deice was not turned on. I must say that the manual is really not any good. I have searched for ice and deice and there is no tutorial for flying in winter conditions as far as I can see. Anyway I learned from you guys! Thank again=)
