i know this has been covered already. i have also spent several days in search mode on the forums and tried almost all possibilities to no avail. my friend cant see me in the server list, and cant directly connect. we can both connect to other servers fine.

i have read pages 148 several times for clues and hints.:book:

heres my specs:

ports 10307-10308 UDP TCP open

router model - M1424WR Verizon FIOS

windows firewall is on and DCS exe allowed inbound and outbound

program running as admin

game profile saved and added to my internal ip 192.168.1.2

windows 7 64 Pro

patched to 1.01c english

.

also when i am a host, i do get the "pause" button on the upper right, but i am unable to un-pause. even when i join as a pilot, i can sit in the pit but nothing else.

help would be greatly appreciated. :helpsmilie:

Have you ever hosted any game? if not, perhaps you have not forwarded correctly those ports. Check any guide in the internet. Or the router have a built in firewall that's messing with Windows one.

About pause button...it's not key "p" as usual in many games, it's the key "pause", usually above "page up" key. If it doesen't work, check keyboard drivers or change the key assignement.

i have never hosted a BS game before.

Check any guide in the internet. Or the router have a built in firewall that's messing with Windows one.

ports are opened correctly. verified that the profile remains after router reboot.

It is amusing that when an application finally starts using that key, all other developers in the world have forgotten about it so bad that ED is the only people that use a standard key for it's standard purpose. Everyone else - even Microsoft - have forgotten that it exists. :P

You're using 192.168.x.x - a private IP range. This means you are using NAT.

Let's assume (example) your public IP is 80.90.100.200

Your router must translate any incoming traffic to 80.90.100.200:10307 (or port 10307 and 10308 TCP/UDP) and change the headers into 192.168.1.2:10307 etc for the traffic to reach your PC.

So on your router you must ensure that it uses "NAT" properly.

Often you can find the function to be called "Servers / Services internal LAN" - where you can define services you use "Internally".

Or it can be called "Port forwarding".

(It depens on how the vendor decided to design the config pages on your router).

See if you can find the propriate pages and config. :)

Also - ICMP/Ping may need to be forwarded to your PC. Some vendors have included this as an option for the "NAT".

as far as i am concerned panzertard, i believe my router is configured properly. i have opened 10307 and 10308 in udp and tcp. (10307 opened because i had read it in the forums).

i also have ICMP echo req checked as well.

i will re-verify all my settings, i will also verify my friends as well. there is no one else that i know of that has BS to test the settings with.

If you haven't done so, do check the Port Forwarding. Even if ports are open and allowed it is theoretically possible for traffic to get lost - especially if you (like me) is sitting behind a router that is behind a switch that is behind a router. For some games (like Defcon) I had to set specific paths to be able to play at all online, for many more it was required if I wanted to host an internet game. Simply opening ports isn't always sufficient.

I don't think you forwarded those ports correctly or the router firewall is messing up. Take an screenshot of the port configuration page of your router.

Also, look at those guides for your router model:

Shouldn't say TCP Any -> 10307-10308 and UDP Any -> 10307-10308 ? I don't know this router, but it's the only thing I feel might be wrong.

Yes, I think you're right, Distiler.

By the looks of it, it's 10307 being forwarded as 10308.

If Falcon and Teamspeak works as expected then the rules for DCS should read "TCP Any -> 10307-10308" and "UDP Any -> 10307-10308".

more info.

i am still unable to host a game, but i was surprized that my friend was able to host. so i am still mystified as to why i am not able too.

i know for sure that it is not BS, but me.

.

i will look into as to how to change the ports to read "any"

well i found out why it doesnt say "any" thats because port triggering was used to create those ports. it was a pre-installed service. ie; just pick the title of the game or software to use and its already setup for you.

so i "tried to" replicate those same services, i'll give it a try and let you all know.

Port triggering should work. I've never been able to make it work in my case, but it should. I always use the classic port forwarding.

i wasnt able to get it to work. apparently it disabled my falcon by routing all incoming to 10308. so i deleted all that i setup, and back to where it was initially.

.

im running wireshark while testing my mp issue. as far as what wireshark is telling me, all appears to be working as ED said it would.

i am still mystified.

anyone with wireshark experience, i'll save the file and email it to you so i can get a professional interpretation.

i have finally found why i wasnt able to host.

in windows 7 64 bit professional there is an option in their firewall settings called "edge traversal". the options are enable, or disable. so i enabled the option and all i was well.

Ah, good find indeed.

Edge traversal: This indicates whether edge traversal is enabled (Yes) or disabled (No). When edge traversal is enabled, the application, service, or port to which the rule applies is globally addressable and accessible from outside a network address translation (NAT) or edge device.

From what I can see it seems it decides wether traffic is allowed to be manipulted (NAT does this) or not. If it is disabled - then it doesn't allow for NAT to modify packets ...

Good find

Interestingly I use NAT and Windows 7 on several computers - not seen the issue where I've needed to modify this setting myself.

EDIT: I was wrong, this is a comment from the interweb out there;

Edge traversal isn't about denying / accepting packets. A packet that arrived via a tunnel terminating on the host would be considered having arrived via edge traversal by that host. When that packet is decapsulated from its tunneling protocol the decapsulated packet will be run thru the firewall rules and the packet will only be checked against the rules that have their edge traversal bit set

So basicly it changes how the traffic is evaluated - when NAT has been used.

So in your case it opened up for allowing DCS guests to reach you - which indicate that your Windows-firewall (rules for allowing DCS) was part of the problem.
