Hi

New to BS. Xmas pressy it was. I told santa about 2 years ago I wanted it. All good things come to those who tell their wife in advance what they want. :D

I've got about 20 hours flying time already in BS. Getting the hang of it. Though, when I think I've mastered a concept, it does something weird. I shall persevere. There doesn't seem to be anything that hasn't already been asked.

If you managed to get through above drivel, there is something I'm curious about. Flying with icons... I don't mean game mode - the blue icons on enemy targets. Do many fly with them off? It seems like cheating with them on. But, then again there's intel. lalalala. I get blasted a lot without them, it's frustrating.

Oh and happy new year. :balloon:

It's kinda cheating and kinda not. Spotting targets on a computer monitor is different than real life. Your eyes have better resolution and your FOV is uncompressed. The video monitor has less detail to hide targets, lower resolution.

There are some modified label mods out there that strip out all the information (name, range, etc) and change the color so it's harder to see. Easier spotting than labels off but harder than the vanilla labels.

Happy flying!

Personally I disable labels. Its more real to me and I kinda like it that way. Frederf is right about spotting targets in real life, then again I ask myself... is it so easy to spot a tank 6km away and probably hidden, with only your eyes? No! So labels off till I can't spot my objective!

I'm a BS noob and I fly with labels off.

If labels is cheating (sort of :)) then zoom is also in that grey zone. While I don't use labels, I use zoom often when hunting for targets - or as the case is normally, searching for enemies shooting at me!

I have particular issues spotting enemy aircraft, so I might try cheat in future.

I know it's beyond the reality aspects of the sim, but...meh! :)

@Frederf BTW, can you point me in the direction of those label mods, pls?
