Hello,

I just reinstalled this game after installing Windows 7 64-Bit. Therefore, I wanted to download the latest Saitek software for my X52 controller. I have been trying to download this for weeks, but I always receive an error from Saitek's web site preventing me from doing so. Very frustrating. Can't believe how bad their web site is.

Therefore, does anybody have the following file that I may be able to get?

SST_Software_64_6_6_6_9.exe

I have tried searching the web for other download places, but no luck. Hoping someone has it and somehow I can get it.

Thanks!

Saitek support is active on their forum as well. Go to Saitek forum, register and state your problem. Somebody may be able to help.

well their website seems to work for everyone pretty well, otherwise you'd find their software mirror'd on other servers, wouldn't you?

so I assume the problems lies on your side, i.e. outdated internet explorer.

Thanks for the information everyone, but I have tried it for a very long time on Saitek's website. I have the latest version of IE and have even tried it on FireFox with no luck. My computer is completly up-to-date with everything operating system related. I also searched for it on other sites, but also no luck.

I have no other issues downloading from other sites. This is why I was hoping someone might already have it and somehow be able to give to me.

Actually tried to do that as well, but registering on their site requires them to grant you access for activation. Still haven't received my activation notice yet. Checked all my spam filters and it is not caught there:(

That link worked fine for me. Note that it is an FTP site not a web site. I would suspect you have some firewall software/hardware/isp that is blocking the FTP port.

Thank you so much, maybe that is it. I'll take a look and thanks for trying it for me!

I'm completely baffled at this point. Couldn't find anything in my firewall software (Norton 2010) that seemed to block this so at this point not sure what is going on for me.

By the way, I tried to ftp to other sites, and they work just fine. For some reason, it is just this particular site. I cleared my firewall rules so not sure where else to check. Also, I have tried from my browser and a FTP client program.

If you are on a router or wireless try turning off windows firewall. Both of my computers are on a router and I had to turn off Windows firewall in order to download from the site. Downloading from Avsim is the same too.

I'm defintely on a router, but it appears Windows firewall is already turned off unless I'm missing something. I'm hesitant to turn off my norton firewall and be connected to the web.

firewalls always cause me problems, I have to turn them off, my anti-virus works just fine. If you cannot use some website and refuse to turn off some firewall, then no one can help you. *whoever needs help....

I have heard other people say they cannot use the Saitek websites.. and I have no idea why they can't. it's very easy to use them.. and very easy to access their files..

I went ahead and turned off "all" my firewalls (windows and norton) and still had the same problem. This is very strange.

I think the only way I'm ever going to be able to get this file is if someone is kind enough to upload to a place where I might be able to download. I know that would be a lot to ask of someone, but not sure what else to do at this point.

That is very strange? Try registering from a different computer. BTW, I am downloading from that ftp link without any problem. Thus, it is definitely something with your setting/setup.

Any chance you can post the file somewhere I could get:)

if by change you are trying to use an ftp client. you may have it setup wrong.. (though, you use it in anonymous mode..) use your browser ftp interface...

also, I use Microsoft browser.. though, all browsers should work..

and those that have problems and finally get it to work never report back what the problem was..

Yeah, tried both browser and a client. From the client, I was able to get to other FTP sites, just not this one. Same thing with the browser. I'm at a complete lost as to why.

Looks like I will be out of luck:(

Along with firewalls, another thing that can bite you on accessing some URLs is your hosts file.

On both my Win XP 32 bit and my Vista 64 bit machines, the hosts file is in:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc folder

It can be edited in notepad. Just remember to save the file as "hosts" (no quotes), not hosts.txt

If you find an entry that looks like

127.0.0.1 ftp.saitek.com

or

127.0.0.1 saitek.com

Then I would suggest commenting that line out with the # sign

# 127.0.0.1 ftp.saitek.com

127.0.0.1 is the universal address for your own machine, aka "home". When a URL in the hosts file is set to 127.0.0.1, it is effectively black holed.

There's no place like 127.0.0.1
