Prophet4no1 Posted January 17, 2010 Posted January 17, 2010 I had two small issues with my x52. The thumb slider was sticking a little as well as the cup on the stick. I whipped up a quick fix I thought I would pass on. First on the thumb slide. I used a very small amount of graphite powder to make it slide better. Quick and easy, you can pick it up for about $2 and most hardware stores. On the stick I used some alcohol to clean the bottom of the cup and the base. I then put a very thin layer of TechT Gun Sav on both the cup and the rim on the base. For those that don't know, TechT Gun Sav is a paintball marker lube. It is super lightweight so it wont ooz off when sitting. It is also very sticky in the sense that it sticks to plastic, metal, and rubber surfaces but has an extremely low friction coefficient. Figure this stuff is meant to be used in markers firing 900+ balls per min in extremely tight tolerances. One part sticks slightly and the marker will break a ball of fail to fire at all. So, supper slippery stuff. You can pick it up at their site (http://www.techtpaintball.com/gunsav.html) for $10. I've been using it for a few years on my paintball markers and it worked great on my stick too! The biggest advantage of this is that it makes the stick move much more smoothly and function better. Which always means better flying. Enjoy! 1 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Prophet4no1 Posted January 22, 2010 Author Posted January 22, 2010 Was this even a little helpfull for any one? [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Prophet4no1 Posted January 22, 2010 Author Posted January 22, 2010 I'm glad it helpsed at least one person. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
HitchHikingFlatlander Posted January 22, 2010 Posted January 22, 2010 Sorry will try this as I my X-52 is a little sticky sometimes. The slider isn't bad just that twitchy slide pot that causes in game zoom issues (can always be solved by moving the slider a bit in either direction). http://dcs-mercenaries.com/ USA Squad
Prophet4no1 Posted January 22, 2010 Author Posted January 22, 2010 I have the slidder issue too. I've thought about calling Saitek to have them send me a new one and replacing it. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
HitchHikingFlatlander Posted January 22, 2010 Posted January 22, 2010 Its a known issue, mine works other than its jittery in a few spots, doubt Saitek will send you a replacement part or even fix it. http://dcs-mercenaries.com/ USA Squad
Prophet4no1 Posted January 22, 2010 Author Posted January 22, 2010 They have in the past. I just called customer support and new pots where in my mail box a few days later. It's been a few years since I've needed to do that. In fact, I think it was my X36 I did that with. Has the customer support gone down that much? [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Sov13t Posted January 27, 2010 Posted January 27, 2010 As an alternative, I use gun oil (Rem Oil with Teflon Lubricant) on my stick to keep it smooth. Works great. Good tips! [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] 51st PVO Regiment | Forum | Statistics DCS: MiG-21Bis
therion_prime Posted January 27, 2010 Posted January 27, 2010 I use Blistex for keeping the cup smooth :D My DCS movies:
Total Posted January 27, 2010 Posted January 27, 2010 White lithium grease here. As far as the slide pot, I use DeOxit 5. But it's still an analog voltage reference converted via a D-A. There's a threshold between "steps". IMHO, they should have gone for a lower value slide pot and adjusted the software paramaters accordingly.
Prophet4no1 Posted January 27, 2010 Author Posted January 27, 2010 That would mean more dev time and as a resault, cost more. Not a bad thing for us, but kinda screws there market are they are shooting for. I know people that picked up the X52 just to play Battlefield2 and use on the jets in it. A bit of overkill if you ask me. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Prophet4no1 Posted January 29, 2010 Author Posted January 29, 2010 Bit o' KY goes a long way! That's a little to watery, for the joystick and it's "propper" use. WET works better in the latter department. I am really happy with the Gun Sav. It's been flawless on mine. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
HitchHikingFlatlander Posted January 30, 2010 Posted January 30, 2010 Uh we're still talking about Joysticks here right? The kind that you use with PC flight sims? http://dcs-mercenaries.com/ USA Squad
