This makes me wonder why Falcon4.0 is the only one with a real time dynamic campaign. I would love something like that in DCS! The only other good dynamic campaign I remember was in Longbow2.

It isn't the only one. Check out EECH.

But the reason why it's an uncommon feature is that it is a very complex thing to do that has a habit of swallowing resources and killing release dates like nothing else - and even after 10 years of active "development" after release the one in Falcon is still far from without big issues.

Longbow 2 did not have a dynamic campaign. It had a cleverly designed scripted campaign that made it look as if it was dynamic.

LB2 had a mission genrator that would make missions on the targets that were left over from the last mission. I you kep refuling and going back out you culd win the war in one mission. and if you faild a mission the front line was pushed back and more targets were added to the map.

MS Combat Flight Simulator III had a dynamic campaign too right? I mean if you succeeded in some missions the front and missions(locations and objectives) were altered. Is that what you mean? If I recall correctly CFS 3 missions seemed somewhat repetitive to me.

But I think that a truly dynamic campaign that remained realistic requires not only human resources from ED but resources from our computers too(many units on the map with their own waypoints and actions)

The overall idea is that if a proper dynamic campaign sytem is to be created this will surely be very complex in order to avoid the simplest problems. I prefer many carefully, realisticly and smartly designed missions rather than a dynamic campaign with bugs.

I'm impressed with what I've seen in DCS. I think it will evolve to that point. One interesting thing I considered concerning resources is grid computing. If you don't volunteer your computers resources while it is idle then the world is evolving slower. A lot of people use BOINC to perform small chunks of scientific calculations during their down time. The app then sends your small completed chunk to the main db, and abra cadabra! more work is done by a few thousand PCs in a shorter time than small bank of super computers. I wonder if the community could put together a grid. I mean, if someone is bitching that the AI isn't fast or smart enough, they can pull out a few old PCs, install Linux, and put the DCS AI Grid up on BOINC and contribute some MIPS.. no?

It's a good thing that this is Early Access and we've all volunteered to help test and enhance this work in progress... despite the frustrations inherent in the task with even the simplest of software... otherwise people might not understand that this incredibly complex unfinished module is unfinished. /light-hearted sarcasm

If you have it running idle, you might as well let it do something useful, but if not, your paying more on your electricity bill so someone else can have processing power for free.

Good, fast, cheap. Choose any two.
