Snobrd Posted January 23, 2010 Posted January 23, 2010 New to DCS: Blackshark. I just loaded it onto my Win7 Home Premium 64 bit. It loaded fine and opens fine. When I select an action i.e. Instant Action, the selected action opens but paused with a message "Press Pause/Break to Start". I can not find any keystroke or combinations that act as a "Pause/Break" to start the game action. The only alteration to letting the installer select all options I made was to install the game directly in the C: drive instead of the C:\programs (x86) which was the default placement. Other flight sims I fly do much better in that location. Any help getting this very interesting sim started would be greatly appreciated.

Snobrd Posted January 24, 2010 Author Posted January 24, 2010 (edited) Thanks Nate... Thanks Eddie. Now I see my problem. I loaded the game on a Dell Studio XPS laptop. There is no Pause/Break key on the limited keyboard. There doesn't appear to be any Function Key equivalent either. My gaming computer is down with hopes of getting up and running very soon. I would very much like to get it going on the laptop in the meantime. Any ideas for the laptop? I did try re-assigning the pause function to a different key. It didn't work. I tried several different keys and a couple of combinations. No joy. Edited January 24, 2010 by Snobrd Additional thought
26-J39 Posted January 24, 2010 Posted January 24, 2010 Bit weird that re-binding pause don't work either.. Try to bind the pause function to a joystick button. Otherwise a cheap usb keyboard should get you out of trouble.
Snobrd Posted January 24, 2010 Author Posted January 24, 2010 Thank you all. The solution = Fn + F12 = Pause/Break. A little Google and a little search here on the boards provided the answer. Apparently it's a common problem with newbies with limited keyboards. 26-J39 apparently the Pause/Break function is not the same as the Pause you can map in the controls setup. I'm not sure what the difference is but re-mapping the Pause in controls will not affect the Pause/Break game start. Thanks again for all your input. I've only had just a few minutes in the game so far but I'm already blown away by the graphics. This time I will look carefully first here in the boards but if any have a reference for or suggestions for a minimum controls setup for stick needed during this beginning learning period that would be appreciated. Fixed wing pilot. Need to learn to fly rotary wing before attempting to blow anything up. So interested in flight controls more than weapons controls. Any IPs out there? Thanks again. Howard
