StrongHarm Posted January 31, 2010 Posted January 31, 2010 You'll see an improvement, yes, but not the kind of improvement you'll see with other games. DCS:BS is very CPU intensive. The video requirements pale in comparison to the system CPU and memory requirements. I noticed when I first installed it that it wasn't even heating my video cards up and thought something was very wrong :) It's a good thing that this is Early Access and we've all volunteered to help test and enhance this work in progress... despite the frustrations inherent in the task with even the simplest of software... otherwise people might not understand that this incredibly complex unfinished module is unfinished. /light-hearted sarcasm
Silent Warrior Posted January 31, 2010 Posted January 31, 2010 Hm... But then, with the newer board woody could likely pump up aa/af to even more ridiculous levels than before and not notice a shred of difference in performance. Hafta think o' that as well. :)
StrongHarm Posted January 31, 2010 Posted January 31, 2010 Even though the new card won't be fully utilized, the newer components will make the old components free to do old things better... if that makes any sense. A small increase in FPS can be expected, and maybe better AA. Where Crysis may go from 20 to 80FPS, DCS:BS may only go from 20 to 30 FPS with this upgrade. I agree though Silent Warrior, it's not all in the FPS. I'd upgrade my card simply for visual quality. KillaALF Posted January 31, 2010 Posted January 31, 2010 GT 240 is slower than the 8800 GT you have now, apart from the enhanced featureset (DX10.1, more RAM) I don't see how this card will run BS faster than your old one.
CAT_101st Posted January 31, 2010 Posted January 31, 2010 I just added a second 8800gt in SLI. I moved my CPU back to stock settings for testing. I saw no improvment is FPS but as I moved my CPU OC up I did start to see a FPS increas over just having 1 8800gt. With the 2 8800gt's in SLI and clocked at 3.4Gh I am gitting 40+ FPS in XP Home 32bit I still use DCS max to select a core other than that of the 0 core. multy CPU is still not supported in XP. And I am running AA and AF at 16x forced. Looks great. But when I go to Win 7 I will go back to seprate my 8800gt's for multy moniter support. I get over 60FPS with just 1 8800gt on a 22" LCD at 1050. I hope this helps. If I am going to up grade it would be at least a GTX260 or better. The 8800gt's are going cheap on E-bay got my second one for $71. hollywoody Posted January 31, 2010 Author Posted January 31, 2010 I'm now trying out a Nvidia GTS250 which seems to run faster than my 8800gt. The specs seem to be better and was told the gts250 is more for gaming than the gt240 is which i beleive is more for tv viewing. btw how do I find out my FPS?? thanks [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] http://WWW.VFA-113.COM ________________________ Win 8.1 i5-3570 3.4ghz-Trackir5-TM Warthog - Pro-Saitek Combat Rudders-Viso 43" 4k"

EtherealN Posted January 31, 2010 Posted January 31, 2010 Or, to avoid confirmation bias and the problem of only seeing your FPS when things are calm enough to let you look over there - run FRAPS and use it's benchmarking feature. It can either give you a Min/Max/Avg output or even feed you a complete sheet with second-for-second FPS for you to analyze. Disadvantage: it's payware, though I believe the free version does have at least the Min/Max/Avg feature.
