XLR8 Posted February 15, 2010 Posted February 15, 2010 I have a Alienware PC in production. But from the Dell blogs there are some stupid delay times. Dell has said parts are to blame for the delays . Has anyone heard of these part shortages. Word s ram and GPUs.
XLR8 Posted February 15, 2010 Author Posted February 15, 2010 The Alienware I am getting is a replacement for my XPS 710 ,MB went out. I just see alot of delays and cancels from Dell. In the old days, you ordered and got your new Pc in 7 to 10 days. I see people who are waiting months for it. Whats your system specs ? I have a gforce 8800 gtx in the 710,very good card. Mine> Aurora>black i7-975 exstream 3.6 ghz 6 gb 1066 ram gforce 240 gts 640 MB sata HD blue ray/dvd/cd grives meadia reader windows 7 64 bit 875 watt psu
XLR8 Posted February 15, 2010 Author Posted February 15, 2010 The 240 is the low end of video cards for alienware. But planning on replacing it with a raideon 5770 or better.Hows those 260s preform.
Prophet4no1 Posted February 15, 2010 Posted February 15, 2010 I hate to imagine the price tag on that thing. I know they run anywehre from $300-1000 more than DIY depending on the setup. I seen one I priced out on Newegg that was $3200 and Alienware wanted $4500. From what I can tell, you pay the extra for a fancy case. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

But I priced it out around $3000 on the Dell site. But my XPS 710 cost about the same. I priced the AW out at newegg and it came out to about $2500
herig2 Posted February 15, 2010 Posted February 15, 2010 I received my Alienware ALX in November, waited about 7 weeks. It was worth the wait. i7 975 extreme overclock, 12GB ram, Dual 5870 in crossfire, 4 1TB hard drives in RAID 10, Dual drives dvd cd, blue ray. On of the hard drives failed, easy exchange. When I upgraded to Windows7 64 bit, the tech support did it, that is after I inserted the disk and the preliminary inputs, they did a remote assist, in downloading, setting up and installing the drivers. All I had to do was install my programs, Great guys in the tech section. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
S77th-konkussion Posted February 16, 2010 Posted February 16, 2010 Alienware- booooooo.. If you want to have someone build it for you, and have a warranty, etc.. www.velocitymicro.com Top shelf liquor. No bloatware. At all. XLR8 Posted February 16, 2010 Author Posted February 16, 2010 Alienware- booooooo.. If you want to have someone build it for you, and have a warranty, etc.. www.velocitymicro.com Top shelf liquor. No bloatware. At all. When I bought my first Dell it had a lot of junk softeare on it. I reformated and that was it. My XPS 710 didn't have any nada.... I have heard some good things about volacity, but again mine is being replaced at no cost.
Prophet4no1 Posted February 16, 2010 Posted February 16, 2010 Mine is covered under the warranty. But I priced it out around $3000 on the Dell site. But my XPS 710 cost about the same. I priced the AW out at newegg and it came out to about $2500 So the extra $500 gets you a warrenty. All of my parts have warrenties. In fact my HD alone is warrentied to 2014, purchased in 2009. The warrenty you pay for is no better than the one that comes with the parts form the OEM. If you brake something you are SOL. The only company that warrenties you messing with stuff that I have come across is eVGA. As long as you do not overvolt, you are covered. I don't know. PC's are so easy to build I just can not find any justification to spend and extra $500-$1000 for a name on the case. You could put that money into other parts, like more water cooling or a bad ass monitor. Maybe even two. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
hitman Posted February 16, 2010 Posted February 16, 2010 You don't get it. Some people don't want to build computers. Why not get all the bad ass parts and monitor built already and delivered to your door if you can afford it? Nothing wrong with that. That's like saying why buy a house when you can build your own cheaper? Some people don't want to be contractors. Sheesh. a custom build by someone else may cost $150, but that is still 850 less than alienware.

That's like saying why buy a house when you can build your own cheaper? Some people don't want to be contractors. Sheesh. That's a hugely differnt comparison. If you want that performance and do not want the DIY, you can buy non Alienware and save cash. It's like buying a the Lexus version of the Solara. It's the same car as the Toyota, but it cost you more to say it's a Lexus. Or GMC over Checy trucks. Exact same thing but costs more with the GMC badges. I'm as much a tuner on my PC as I am on my car. I constantly am tweaking and overcloaking and swapping out parts. Alien/Dell makes that harder to do. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

Then the motherboard went out in my dell. Once I found out what the replacement computer was I decided not to build a new one. Now answer this. The computer that went out had a C2D 2.4 cpu. The Alienware pc that I am getting in exchange has a i7-975 extreme 3.6 cpu,old pc ram DDR2 800 mhz,new pc ram 1066 DDR3 just to name a few upgrades. That did not cost me anything. The exstened warranty cost me less than $200. It don't take a rocket scientist to see the difference.
hitman Posted February 17, 2010 Posted February 17, 2010 (edited) Funny, the VelocityMicro quoted as equivelent or better is just as expensive or more than Alienware or more. Anyway, don't buy Alienware then, no one is forcing you, just don't criticize people for their choices, maybe they have more money than you and like the rig. where did i criticise anyone for buying alienware? my last rig cost me 2400 bucks...i7 920 watercooled, 2x gtx260 core 216 watercooled, 6 gb ddr3 12800 dominator watercooled, ttake 1200w psu, ttake water pumps and radiator, gigabyte ex58 extreme watercooled, and other odds and ends, how much would alienware charge for that? Edited February 17, 2010 by hitman
hitman Posted February 17, 2010 Posted February 17, 2010 Sorry, you did not criticize, that was someone else. My bad. i dont criticise anyone for buying anything...thats why i have a 62" tv. i do offer alternative solutions, and one is to find a microcenter nearby, nuy your parts you want, and pay them $150 to build it.
hitman Posted February 17, 2010 Posted February 17, 2010 LED tv made by mitsubishi. mine isnt led but its still hi def.
Prophet4no1 Posted February 17, 2010 Posted February 17, 2010 Why is Alienware hard to swap parts and overclock? That is just wrong. You also assume everyone wants to save cash over style. Some don't. I just choose wiser investments. I'll pay for function. That's why I just odered a new Cooler Master 690 II Advanced case. Clean slick style with room for dual radiators for the water cooling that is going in later this year. This thing is all about performance and still looks good. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Prophet4no1 Posted February 17, 2010 Posted February 17, 2010 Why is Alienware hard to swap parts and overclock? That is just wrong. You also assume everyone wants to save cash over style. Some don't. A buddy of mine had an Alienware system from about a year after Dell baught them out. He wanted to overclock but could not figure out how so I went over to help. Turned out that the Dell classic of locked BIOS caried over to the Alienware systems. So, no overclocking that thing. We ended up building a new computer using the Alienware case a year later. I have cooked a couple processors, but that was my fault. Only thing I ever have fail on a soemwhat normal basis is my HDs. I guess I over work them? I did have an EVGA 8800GTX crap out on me once. EVGA no longer was making that cars so they sent me a 9800GTX to replace it. No extra cash paid. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
hitman Posted February 17, 2010 Posted February 17, 2010 my gigabyte ex58 extreme failed on me 3 times, but thats because of the psu i used...NEVER EVER BUY COOLMAX U's...warranty work is non existant.
Prophet4no1 Posted February 18, 2010 Posted February 18, 2010 I've been using Evrest on the last few builds. Rock solid so far and 85%+ efficiancy. I'm actually ordering parts for a build for a buddy soon. It will be a screamer. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
S77th-konkussion Posted February 18, 2010 Posted February 18, 2010 Looks a lot like mine. And what's with the snippy bloatware comments. My Alienware has no bloatware. Just an install of Windows and whatever I put on it. If Dell is involved- it is overpriced chinsy garbage- mass produced on a grand scale. That's what I meant. Not to mention the juvenile cases. There is what is a simple step that OC it to a certain point. More or less a one button aproch. Then there are the manual way to OC it. I have alread read where 4.0 clocks have been gotten. In all honestly I did want to build my own rig. And in a lot of ways its best. But in my circustances I am getting a better computer than I could have built for the price. Useing the Alienware case is a common acurance, people want the case trash the MB and use the rest.

My Alienware has the ugraded radeon 5870 in it . I will have to see how that works out. Dells polocy is if thay cant fix it due to parts or other. It will be replaced by the same specs or better. Well yes the 8800GTX will out preform the 9800GT, BUT against the 9800GTX they are the exact same. Just the 9800 is more power efficient. And look at that I double posted  My Specs:Win 10 Pro 64bit/ i7 6770K 4.5Ghz/32GB DDR4/ GTX 1070 SC/Samsung SSD Warthog Stick/TWCS Throttle/TrackIR 5
