I understand the concept and what it does, my question though is do most here "hold in the button (CB), make collective change, then release"? or "make collective change then tap collective brake button"?

For me I do Hold the collective lever all the maneuver and then release it, because it seems the way it must be done.

In real bird Every time you move the collective you need to hold the brake so you can raise/lower the collective

You do not really need to hold or to press the collective brake if you want to change your altitude. The only implemented funktion of the collective brake, is the input to the altitude-hold channel. If you change altitude in auto mode, press and hold "F" until you reach your altitude you wish and then just release "F". The altitude-hold channel will now hold this new height.

Or, deactivate auto altitude-hold, change your height and activate auto altitude-hold again. That's all you need to do.
