Unicorn0578 Posted February 25, 2010 Posted February 25, 2010 Hi guys, This flight went well IMO. Still trying to be smooth and fly where I want to but I'll be honest I didnt plan on ending up where I did :megalol: Please check it out if you have 10 minutes spare. All comments appreciated. Is there a way for auto pilot to maintain a height I set? so I can turn and it keeps 50m for example? Thanks :Dsmoothish flight1.trk
bfeld Posted February 25, 2010 Posted February 25, 2010 (edited) Hi, Is there a way for auto pilot to maintain a height I set? so I can turn and it keeps 50m for example? there is the ALT HOLD (LShift-A), which is the fourth button of the four green autopilot channels on the right. PITCH, BANK and HEADING HOLD are the others that can be turned on/off there. Note, that the height is measured by radar (<=300m) or barometric (>300m). You have to tell the autopilot which one to use (LCtrl-X). It should keep your height within it's limits (i.e. smooth turns etc.), you set height when releasing the collective break ('F' - key). Nevertheless, your control input is priorised, sharp manoeuvres won't be fully compensated. Bye bfeld Edited February 25, 2010 by bfeld
26-J39 Posted February 26, 2010 Posted February 26, 2010 Unicorn0578, I made a quick trk for you to observe. But a couple of tips first. 1- Try to keep your inputs to the cyclic and collective smooth, in general helo's are slow to respond to inputs so keep it smooth is very important. 2- Trim when you are trying to maintain the helo's attitude in level flight, try not to trim when banking. In my trk.. I used a couple of different ways to maintain a constant altitude bank. Firstly when I take off, trim for level flight (check Verticle Air Speed Ind) and turn on Alt Hold, I turn off Heading Hold and use cyclic and rudder for a smooth turn while maintaining altitude. Its important to be smooth on inputs especially cause the Alt Hold AP only has a 20% authority on the collective inputs. In the next banking turn I leave the Heading Hold ON but while maintaining my turn I hold the trim button down. Help this helps in some way.Smoother Flight.trk
