Hi all,

I'm new to these forums looking for help...I have purchased DCS Blackshark few days ago but never got to simulation itself. Can start menu ok but when click i.e. Instant action, the game freeze at point of picture with pilot walking to the helicopter.

I have attached the information which is hopefully enough to see where the possible problem could be.Just in case I have tried to run the game in original status and also with compatibility of file DCS.exe changed to Win95 (this already helped me when running FC 1.12) Therefore you will find two options of error logs from TEMP folder and also two console logs.Next file attached is DXDiag so you can see exactly what system I use....Will try to desrcibe the problem a little bit closer...

I have downloaded latest driver for graphic card

DirectX instaled with game

Game is patched to 1.0.1c EN after blank instalation (no cd EN version)

Option 1 - No compatibility checked (after clean instalation and patch applied)

I can start menu but when trying to start simulation, the game freeze on screen with an image of pilot walking toward helicopter.I've been waiting for cca 5 minutes but still the same and had to end task via task manager where application DCS.exe was not responding and CPU usage was 100%) Event viewer shows this error.

Option 2 - File DCS.exe run in compatibility mode Win95 (after clean instalation and patch applied)

Again can start menu without any problems but can't get any closer than to screen with pilot walking to helicopter. Then without any error message the game returns to main menu.Strangely,no log in Event viewer.

Many thanks to anyone willing to help!

Regards Ludek

Using win95 compatibility is really weird. In any way, there seems to be some kind of problem with directx:

"DirectX Files Tab: The file directx.cpl is a debug version, which will run slower than the retail version."

"directx.cpl: 5.03.0000.0900 English Final Debug 8/18/2003 04:10:24 122880 bytes (problem)"

You might want to download the whole directx package from Microsoft website and reinstall it.

OK,I have downloaded most recent DirectX package (cca 105MB) and installed...the problem still persist. Is it neccessary to uninstall directx completely before instalation or just run dxsetup.exe and restart (thats what I did)? I have also attached dxdiag file after new package instalation.

ok forget about that .cpl file, I think it's just a control panel leftover or something. It shouldn't affect.

I got rid of this issue in the meantime by dowloading that .cpl file manually so this is fixed anyway...now the dxdiag shows no problems at all but the game is still not running...It seems that the only idea left is to buy another HDD and install completely new system just for playing DCS because unfortunately I can't touch my original system.Do you think that running two systems on one pc would be a solution?

Att: I have attached last dxdiag after fixing .cpl file (just in case)

I don't know why you can't to touch your system, but from time to time, Windows XP needed to be reinstalled, it "degraded" with time. Might be a solution, but perhaps something is being overlooked.

The fact that LockOn doesen't work if you don't execute it with W95 compatibility is where I would start looking for solutions.

Try to change to windowed mode instead of full screen, and if works start from there, changing nvidia driver options (no AA for example), etc. until everything works well, even in full screen.

I know what you're saying,of course the system could be "obsolete" as last instalation has been made 5 years ago.Unfortunately,I need to keep some installed software on it untouched (very hard to get instalation discs from my employee in Ireland,if something goes wrong, whole pc is to be sent over and reinstalled 2000km off my home) so looks the only solution would be to run two systems simultaneously :(

I have tried to run DCS in window mode with nvidia settings at minimum but still can't pass through to flight....there must be something strange.Do you think that instalation to another location than Program files may help?

It helps with Vista/7, don't know in XP. Also help doing it as an administrator.

Currently you have: Windows XP Professional (5.1, Build 2600) Service Pack 2

I got a vague memory regarding that SP3 might be required now - not sure why, but I'm pretty sure I've seen a post regarding some issues when you run SP2.

And btw - dont use the Win95 compatability mode - you're on XP, not reason to further downgrade the compatability. It would just cause more problems.

Stick with native Windows XP mode.

I have upgraded to SP3 but unfortunately still the same problem  can't pass the screen with pilot walking to helicopter. The game just freeze at this point and have to end application via task manager...tried to leave it for cca 10 minutes but nothing happened...I have already tried

Download latest driver for NVidia

Reinstall Directx from a full package

Upgrade system to SP3

Run the game with lowest settings and windowed mode

Turn off antialiasing and anisotropic filtering in nvidia settings

Does anyone has an idea what else shall I try?

Many thanks

No,nothing like this....don't have TrackIR at all....I have already decided to do it in a little bit different way.Because I can't do up such a large changes as reformat to my system, need to buy another harddrive and install blank system on it.Will run two system on one pc just to play DCS :music_whistling: But at least I can use the second harddrive as a backup...Will let you know how does it work.

Well, problem sorted...I have purchased another HDD and installed blank XP on it with SP3.Blackshark is running finally :pilotfly: and I have two systems on my pc.In my situation this was the easiest way.

Many thanks to all who posted in this topic willing to help
