pauldy Posted March 9, 2010 Posted March 9, 2010 I have a noob inquiry anyway.. Is it possible to enter STT mode without having to "Re-lock" the PDT in TWS mode? I find it cumbersome to "re-lock" the target again in the VSD especially in the heat of close combat.. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
104th_Crunch Posted March 9, 2010 Posted March 9, 2010 Sorry but the answer is no. The only way is to bug the contact a second time.
Frostie Posted March 9, 2010 Posted March 9, 2010 Yes, but using STT in TWS is not valid, to lock a target STT (Single Target Track) requires you to be in RWS (Range While Scan) so while in TWS (Track While Scan) you either lock the target again or switch back to RWS which will automatically lock the target as STT. Mugenjin Posted March 9, 2010 Posted March 9, 2010 why don't you just use vertical scan in close combat? :P
pauldy Posted March 10, 2010 Author Posted March 10, 2010 I see, i must be thinking of it as an APG-73 .. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Burnerski Posted March 10, 2010 Posted March 10, 2010 (edited) Frostie if I remember correctly, in the real F15 anyway, bugging a target twice while in TWS will put the target in STT. Regards, Burner Edited March 10, 2010 by Burnerski no reason
Frostie Posted March 10, 2010 Posted March 10, 2010 Frostie if I remember correctly, in the real F15 anyway, bugging a target twice while in TWS will put the target in STT. Regards, Burner Yes, this is correct except you will no longer be in TWS, you will now be in RWS. ;) There is no such thing as a full STT in TWS. "[51☭] FROSTIE" #55 'Red 5'. GGTharos Posted March 10, 2010 Posted March 10, 2010 Technically STT is a separate mode from RWS ... DTWS is also separate from TWS ... etc. :) [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Reminder: SAM = Speed Bump :D I used to play flight sims like you, but then I took a slammer to the knee - Yoda
Frostie Posted March 10, 2010 Posted March 10, 2010 Yes GG thanks for correcting me, the point im trying to make is that RWS and STT are real time. "[51☭] FROSTIE" #55 'Red 5'. Lord Flashheart 51st PVO "Bisons" - 100 KIAP Regiment Fastest MiG pilot in the world - TCR'10 https://100kiap.org
Burnerski Posted March 10, 2010 Posted March 10, 2010 Another neat fact is if your in HOJ, at burn through, the radar will automatically transition to STT regardless of prior designation(RWS or TWS)
GGTharos Posted March 10, 2010 Posted March 10, 2010 Yeah, but get this - I was also wrong ... HDTWS is a SUBmode of TWS. Bah. Self-pwned. Anyway, joking aside - RWS and TWS are the same insofar as 'real time' is concerned. They scan in the exact same way, it's what the software does behind the curtain that's different. As an example (N/A LOFC) the F-15 radar requires 4 hits to build the track. This means the target must be swept 4 times before a track file is created. On the first hit it looks like a faint RWS contact, and it becomes solid on the second. After that you get the vector and other things - it doesn't mean TWS isn't realtime ... the target is displayed at each hit and you can designate it at will - the state of the track may or may not dictate which mode your radar will switch to. Huge aside though, yes :P Yes GG thanks for correcting me, the point im trying to make is that RWS and STT are real time. wed Posted March 12, 2010 Posted March 12, 2010 If I understand a question correctly then Yes U can lock a target in STT mode while trackin it i TWS 1 lock target it tws 2 press a key(combination shf+i or something that changes between STT and TWS) and radar goes to STT
GGTharos Posted March 12, 2010 Posted March 12, 2010 No, just 'lock' it again. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Reminder: SAM = Speed Bump :D I used to play flight sims like you, but then I took a slammer to the knee - Yoda
Frostie Posted March 12, 2010 Posted March 12, 2010 Yes, to do without physically bugging the target again, just press the TWS button again (as if going back to RWS), the 'TWS bugged target' will change to STT. pauldy Posted March 13, 2010 Author Posted March 13, 2010 (edited) Sorry for the long reply, been busy these days.. @wed & Frostie: It works^^ That is kind of function i've been looking for. Thanks ~ Edited March 13, 2010 by pauldy [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
RvEYoda Posted March 13, 2010 Posted March 13, 2010 To go back from STT to TWS like the real plane does, you can use a macro which presses "unlock" then "lock" again after maybe 0.1 s. Quite useful. (but you'll need to first put the cursor on the target) Some servers run some extra lrm features that already has this built in though. S = SPARSE(m,n) abbreviates SPARSE([],[],[],m,n,0). This generates the ultimate sparse matrix, an m-by-n all zero matrix. - Matlab help on 'sparse'
