Panzertard Posted August 5, 2010 Posted August 5, 2010 Many of the different aircrafts have different systems - which all benefits from different keybindings. There are quite alot of common keybindings to of course. I too hope to see some better interface for this later, there have been suggestion made. Just be sure to present some good suggestions, gents - complaining and not presenting solutions is not going to help ED much. ;) The mind is like a parachute. Rusty_M Posted August 5, 2010 Posted August 5, 2010 I prefer being able to configure each plane individually. It really makes things easier for certain unique functions of each plane. However, it would be great if there was an option each time you change a setting to either change it only for the selected aircraft or for all applicable planes. I'm no programmer so I have no idea how easy that'd be to implement, but I guess it would please most of both camps, though you can never please everyone. The world is going mad. Me? I'm doing fine! http://www.twitch.tv/rusty_the_robot https://www.youtube.com/user/RustyRobotGaming
RipKirby Posted August 5, 2010 Posted August 5, 2010 What are the discrepancies? 7 for helmet weapon release drag chute more? There are 100s of buttons that have no reason to be any different because they do the absolute same thing.
nomdeplume Posted August 6, 2010 Posted August 6, 2010 So you can pull back on the stick and do a roll? I imagine more along the lines of having different response curves for different aircraft. Some people might even have more than one stick and want to use whichever one best suits the particular plane. Programmatically? George Bush is that you?? About 18,600,000 results... it's not that uncommon a term. :) What are the discrepancies? It's more that you need to be able to override controls. For example, there's no point having a button dedicated to turning the laser on or off if you're flying a plane without a laser rangefinder; or having a button configured for 'weapon release' if you're flying a Russian aircraft; or radar-related controls in the ground-attack planes which have no radar. So the system would have to let you assign 'common controls', but also airplane-specific controls. And many of the 'common controls' are only common to a subset of aircraft. And it has to be able to detect conflicting assignments. Not saying it can't be done, but IMO having to assign the controls for each plane you want to fly is a minor hassle (especially given it assists in familiarising yourself with the new plane) and the resources that it would require to implement such a system are better used elsewhere.
zaelu Posted August 6, 2010 Posted August 6, 2010 The general key bindings could have been marked as a "plane" in drop down menu... is weird to reprogram all the command keys identically for each plane. I don't have any keys broken... i just don't (ever) like default bindings in any game. Call it as you like but is my preference to have minimum Ctrol+Shift+key for urgent things... When I will have a touch screen maybe I will bind the buttons on screen with the programing of touch buddy but till then... Also I don't like to program Win+Control+Shift+Alt+etc to my Hotas buttons... I get confused in which mode I am (saitek x52pro) especially in "urgent situations" and I don't like to deploy flaps instead of flares... if you know what I mean. I like one button to do just one thing. KISS... :) Especially when they are placed all over the place... my 2c [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] I5 4670k, 32GB, GTX 1070, Thrustmaster TFRP, G940 Throttle extremely modded with Bodnar 0836X and Bu0836A, Warthog Joystick with F-18 grip, Oculus Rift S - Almost all is made from gifts from friends, the most expensive parts at least
RipKirby Posted August 6, 2010 Posted August 6, 2010 (edited) It would be more manageable if the different aircraft were in one table instead of a table for each one. as in: Command Default(all) MIG-29 SU-27 flaps F Y X gear G B CTRL+D That would please everyone. Edited August 6, 2010 by RipKirby
