ThePlainsman Posted March 27, 2010 Posted March 27, 2010 (edited) Okay, I downloaded the three files. One is a 1.29 mb setup file. The other two much much bigger. Both are something called "Bin" files. WTF is a Bin file? Calmly....1. Which file do I click on to install first? 2. Why does my PC not recognize a BIN file? How do I fix this? 3. Why was asked to "insert Disk 1?" What kind of question is that? LOMAC only had one disk. Please help. How do I install this puppy? My specs: Lock-On 1.02 (installed). I have Flaming Cliffs 1.0 but not installed. I don't like the Starforce. Quad Core i7 920 @ 3.7MHz GTX 285 vid card 6 Gig 1600 MHz Mushkin RAM Win 7, Home 64Bit Edited March 27, 2010 by ThePlainsman

When I click on Setup.exe, it asks for Disk 1. WTF? Is Disk 1 the first BIN file? What do I do with the two BIN files? What purpose do they serve? Where do they go?

Renato71 Posted March 28, 2010 Posted March 28, 2010 BIN files are files with data. Setup.exe extracts that data. Put all three files in the same folder. You are having similar problem as many other that are not familiar with PC's. Search the forum for topics with "install" in title. I'm selling MiG-21 activation key. Pizzicato Posted March 28, 2010 Posted March 28, 2010 When I click on Setup.exe, it asks for Disk 1. WTF? Is Disk 1 the first BIN file? What do I do with the two BIN files? What purpose do they serve? Where do they go? You don't need to worry about what a BIN file is. It's just a data file. The Disk 1 issue seems to arise if Windows has to rename the Setup file to something different. My Download folder already had a file named Setup.EXE from a different application, so the Flaming Cliffs 2 file got renamed Setup(2).EXE In order to fix the problem, I just copied the three files (Setup(2).EXE and the two BIN files) to a new temporary folder and renamed the fiel Setup.EXE Hope that helps. i7-7700K @ 4.9Ghz | 16Gb DDR4 @ 3200Mhz | MSI Z270 Gaming M7 | MSI GeForce GTX 1080ti Gaming X | Win 10 Home | Thrustmaster Warthog | MFG Crosswind pedals | Oculus Rift S
ThePlainsman Posted March 28, 2010 Author Posted March 28, 2010 Thanks guys. I did figure it out. I had the Setup.exe downloaded to a different file than the two BIN files. I put all three on my desktop, then double-clicked on setup.exe and the install worked.
Stuntie Posted March 28, 2010 Posted March 28, 2010 Glad you got it sorted. For extra nerd points - Bin is short for 'binary data file'. The raw computer numbers numbers that are not meant to be read, as compared to say a text file. Cheers Stuntie [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
