I may finally get an answer to this after years of wondering...what exactly does the "Attack my enemy" command do? Now in FC 2.0, your pilot says "Weapons free".

Does this mean that you're ordering your flight to "fire at will"? What I'm really, really hoping this what this command does is provide an auto-sort. Falcon has this and its something I've always felt Lock On could use. You lock up one bandit, issue the auto-sort, and your AI wing men will do their best to target a bandit *other* than the one you have locked. Makes handling a flight of four much easier.

Auto-sort or not, I'd like to know what this command does! Can someone from ED or a tester answer this?

not sure what exactly they engage but i am guessing it would be for example an strela that is firing at you.

Anyway, the target they will attack will have some sort of relation to you.

Interested myself to in an detailed explanation.

It should be a function where you order your wingman to attack a locked (by you) target.

YOu can experiment this theory by deploy 2 A-50, LOCK 1 ON, and order your wing man to "attack my enemy"

if your wingman engage the target locked by you, then the above theory is correct.

According to the manual (pg. 221), Attack my Target directs your flight/wingman to attack any aircraft attempting to attack you

Seems a bit like the "Cover Me" command. Sounds like the difference is "cover me" directs flight/wingmen to attack a bandit that already has you targeted (locked?). Perhaps "Attack my enemy" directs flight/wingmen to engage any "potential" airborne threat. Need to test to compare AI reaction.

Thanks ReOrdain. My manual wasn't working, but now it is since I updated Adobe Acrobat.

"Player requests wingmen to attack enemy aircraft that his attacking him"

That's still vague. In old FC, I experimented with this command a lot and usually got a "negative" from my wing man. I need to try it out in 2.0. In the mean time, I'd still like to know exactly what the AI will attempt to do when given this command.

Ok, just tried a 2 v 2. Told my wing man to pincer to separate the bandits. I lock up one and give the "engage my enemy" command.

No response. Dead silence. Not a "negative" or anything. Just silence.

I engage my bandit. My wing man goes defensive. Then he gets shot down. I manage to kill one bandit, the other bandit kills me at the same time I kill him. In other words, he did nothing. Just flew right into them.

*sigh*

So, can I safely say this command does nothing? I have a feeling this command has never done anything and its just a left over from old Lock On. No one has ever been able to provide any information on what exactly this does. I don't mean to sound pessimistic, but it is what it is.

My suggestion would be to make this an auto-sort command, but I'm afraid FC is a done deal at this point. Oh well. :)

EDIT: Before anyone suggests anything, please be aware that I've been playing for quite some time and I know how to herd the AI wing men around. I was hoping this command would be improved somehow to actually *do* something, maybe something to make handling a four ship easier.
