I know there have been a lot of problems with haze in FC2, and frankly I'd just rather turn it off anyway. I prefer having no haze.

Problem is, I can't do this in the game. There's some file I need to edit. I don't know which one.

What specific problems are you experiencing with the haze in FC2?

You can turn off advanced haze in the options.lua file located in \...\Black Shar\data\scripts folder. However, this will also disable many other shader effects and in all likelihood cause you a new set of problems.

Seems to be a common problem from what I'm reading...

This is the best screenshot I have of the issue. I don't know if there's a fix for it either. I haven't found one despite searching the forums. Then again, I'm awful at searching for things. :P It's often right under my nose.

Easiest thing to fix - just get TekaTeka NO CLOUD SHADOW mod and the broken annoying shadows on the hills are gone.

I guess that works as a temporary fix. I know something having to do with shadows is the culprit of this issue. I found something about "All Shadows" and "All Planar" causing problems. I use "All Planar" and refuse to use anything less. :P

Problem is, it's only FC1 compatible from what I can tell.

EDIT: Crud, seems TekaTeka's link is broken...

In other words, you are not experiencing any specific issues with advanced haze that would warrant the thread title of "Advanced haze is messed up, so I just want to turn it off." There have been some instances where advanced haze had for some inexplicable reason turned off and a few other cases where users turned it off themselves in the options.lua file, but as far as I'm aware, there are not significant issues with advanced haze that would require you turning it off, especially when doing so will likely break other special effects.

Yea, I actually didn't know that not having haze would actually bug up other parts of the game. I have it turned off for now, but as soon as I'm confident that the TekaTeka cloud shadow mod is compatible with FC2, I'll turn it back on and just run the mod as a temporary fix until, hopefully, a patch fixes this problem.

Then again I wouldn't know if it can be fixed. I'm running an ATI Raedon 4800 HD series (or something along those lines) and if it's my graphics card just being flat out unable to make it run properly, then there's really nothing I can do. Oh well.

Does using the no clouds mod take anything else away except the annoying shimmering in the hills? I mean, does it take cloud shadows that work (over flat land for example) away? If so, is there a limitation in the graphics engine that prohibits ED to put out an official patch? I know this problem has been around since LOMAC was launched...

I know but you can never be sure......

So I guess the choice is between "no clouds" vs. "shimmering hills"

Is there a fix planned to keep the cloud shadows but remove the shimmering bug on the hills? Or is there a limitation in the graphics engine that doesn't allow you to fix it properly?

Thanks.

Ok thanks EB. At least you confirmed it will eventually be replaced with new code.
