RvEFuSiOn Posted April 13, 2010 Posted April 13, 2010 (edited) Ive noticed this issue with lockon since the first series, even after switching many systems over the years, that when someone gets killed in an mp server eg 104th server, there is massive stuttering and warp for a few seconds. I don't know what causes this, either the chat or the fact someone's a/c hit the ground or the fact that this event is transmitted to everyone at once. Ive noticed this has never been fixed, Ive flown many flight sims over the years and have never noticed this anomaly, however it seems to be true with the lockon series. So... I'm wondering if the dev's can tell us if we can delay events for example... Sending events in a que type of fashion so that events are sent to one player at a time, rather than every client on the server at once. When i mean delay i mean a delay that is almost not noticeable. (Game events don't seem to be sent in a very efficient way) It seems the lack of this ability causes massive warp too, across the board and overtime degrades the server because of backlog of information. There still seems to be a memory issue with FC2 like in the previous versions of lockon that yet hasn't been resolved,(where over a period of 1-2hrs fps degrades in an mp server) I'm wondering if the DEV's looked at this? Anyway this has been on my mind for a long time, and i thought id post it to make others aware and possibly point out something that needs to be checked. Any ideas? RvEYoda Posted April 13, 2010 Posted April 13, 2010 I think this is also an issue in SP, does it happen for you when you shoot down someone in single player? (it does for me) I think something like this. 1. Player gets killed 2. Major local stutter due to things being loaded in some inefficient way 3. Lack of network transmissions from "all clients" during "2", since they are stuck in the stutter 4. Because "2" is of different size on each computer, the people with fast computers will see the slow computer guys warping - Just my theory S = SPARSE(m,n) abbreviates SPARSE([],[],[],m,n,0). This generates the ultimate sparse matrix, an m-by-n all zero matrix. - Matlab help on 'sparse'
Mustang Posted April 13, 2010 Posted April 13, 2010 There still seems to be a memory issue with FC2 like in the previous versions of lockon that yet hasn't been resolved,(where over a period of 1-2hrs fps degrades in an mp server) I believe this is down to debris accumulating, the longer the client stays in the server, the more it gathers and bit by bit, the FPS drops away. Notice how when you exit and rejoin a server, all that crap is gone and the FPS is restored. I believe this could be fixed by there being a time threshold for the debris, say, 30 mins and it disappears. This could help stability server side too, quite substancially i reckon.
slug88 Posted April 13, 2010 Posted April 13, 2010 For what it's worth, I haven't noticed this stutter at all, neither in SP nor MP. And I just got out of a MP game during which several a/c were shot down, no stutters. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
KeyCat Posted April 13, 2010 Posted April 13, 2010 Ive noticed this issue with lockon since the first series, even after switching many systems over the years, that when someone gets killed in an mp server eg 104th server, there is massive stuttering and warp for a few seconds. I don't know what causes this, either the chat or the fact someone's a/c hit the ground or the fact that this event is transmitted to everyone at once. I've also noticed this at 104th server (mostly flown on that one) but since I hidden away the chatlog completely things seems to improved a bit. I can still see the chatlog by pressing ~ on my keyboard and I prefer this way instead of seeing up to 8 lines of text while flying and concentrating on my task - YMMV. Change the following two lines in ...\FUI\Resources\Multiplayer\chat-log.res First \coord{0, 18, 1023, 190} change to \coord{0, 18, 1023, 20} second \coord{20, 0, 1003, 190} change to \coord{20, 20, 1003, 20} Try it out and let us know if it improved things for you as well or if I just imagined things... /KC
