Majesco Posted May 3, 2010 Posted May 3, 2010 I know AWACS can determine a target lock is friend or hostile But.....could i ask AWACS for specification exactly the distance from player to jam source (enemy plane location) while i've a lock on an ECM signal ? and AWACS can or cannot guide the semi-active missile launched from my aircraft to enemy target if i turn off the fire control radar after launch ?
GGTharos Posted May 3, 2010 Posted May 3, 2010 No and no. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Reminder: SAM = Speed Bump :D I used to play flight sims like you, but then I took a slammer to the knee - Yoda
EtherealN Posted May 3, 2010 Posted May 3, 2010 What you can do is ask the AWACS for nearest bandit. If the bearing is right for your jam source, you'll know the range and can judge for yourself if a HOJ shot is an option. EtherealN Posted May 3, 2010 Posted May 3, 2010 As I said: if the bearing is right. ;) 20 miles would be within burnthrough range for most types of targets though. Robin_Hood Posted May 3, 2010 Posted May 3, 2010 Yeah, if you ask for nearest contact, cross-check the info with what you know about the bandit (bearing, estimated altitude and such). If you're flying a russian plane, just check the datalink. The one big advantage russian planes still have in FC2 ;) 2nd French Fighter Squadron
EtherealN Posted May 3, 2010 Posted May 3, 2010 Now don't go reminding the Su/MiG pilots that their planes have something the Eagle doesn't in FC. The cognitive dissonance will be measured on the richter scale. :D But yes, it's a method I use a lot, say we have an engagement like this: 1 - Flight of two F15's (my flight) heading 360. 2 - Two separate hostile flights, both jamming, at bearing 010 and 355. 3 - I ask AWACS for nearest bandit 4 - AWACS comes back with "bandits bearing 355 for 35, angels medium, hot" I then know that the jam strobe I've locked is 35nm away and is approaching me. I also know that this is the biggest threat, since the bandit strobes at 010 didn't get reported as nearest bandit. However, I do not know how much further away they are, unless I get a standard call from AWACS later that gives information for that bearing (and if that information comes cold I have even more information to judge the opening stage of the engagement by when deciding whether to commit or extend). Nate--IRL-- Posted May 3, 2010 Posted May 3, 2010 An OT question here, if an EWR is present for a side, does it perform the Awacs/GCI role for that team, if there is no Awacs is present for that side? Nate Ka-50 AutoPilot/stabilisation system description and operation by IvanK- Essential Reading
Robin_Hood Posted May 3, 2010 Posted May 3, 2010 I think it gives datalink for equipped aircrafts, but I'm not sure if they come up on the radio 2nd French Fighter Squadron
