PedroTheGoat Posted May 26, 2010 Posted May 26, 2010 (edited) Okay... I am fairly qualified to answer this question because I have just recently purchased Lock On after playing Black Shark for a month or two. Get Black Shark I'm not going to totally trash on Lock On. But if you want some MAJOR gratification and some edge of your seat action, then Black Shark is the way to go. After buying Lock On just 2 days ago... I will have to say that Black Shark is just a better sim... It takes a lot of time to learn, but man does it ever pay off. Flying the Black Shark just feels so damned... Real. While flying anything besides the SU 25 in Lock on just doesn't. I wouldn't go so far as to say it's like playing Ace Combat or HAWX or anything like that... But you just won't get the same sense of awesomeness out of the Standard Flight Models in Lock On as you will the high fidelity in Black Shark. Black Shark takes exponentially longer to learn and master... But the feeling you get when you feel confident in this egg beater is unrivaled. As Logan said. Game = Lock On (Besides maybe the SU 25... But it's still not close to BS) Sim = Black Shark (Edit... As I said in the beginning of my statement... I bought LO 2 days ago... I haven't even been able to dive as deep into it to really make a full on judgment... These are the Goat's initial impressions.) Edited May 26, 2010 by PedroTheGoat
nemises Posted May 26, 2010 Posted May 26, 2010 Having said that, Lockon will let you throw missles at eachother in a turning fight! (ones that are, at this time tweaked to be as near to the real thing a the engine allows by people who are in the know!). If you like the idea of notching, fpole / epole, or even just generally ECM spamming and sneaking about then Lockon is a GREAT sim ... it really is good for "the fight" which is where it gets most exciting for a lot of folks... what it doesnt have is a complicated system behind the "end effect" (ie radar's) , though they are complicated enough, modelling low / high PRF, doppler notching, ECM burnthrough etc... But if following procedure, and dropping bombs are your thing, BS is the superior sim of course.
PedroTheGoat Posted May 26, 2010 Posted May 26, 2010 But if following procedure, and dropping bombs are your thing, BS is the superior sim of course. Lock On is due for some good defense right now... Otherwise I would be sharpening my horns on that comment. ;)
2GvSAP_Dart Posted May 26, 2010 Posted May 26, 2010 Naw, the only problem with LOMAC is that it is populated with fixed wing jets. I like flying things with propellors, even if they're giant mutated ones put on the top of the machine rather than on the front.
Frostie Posted May 26, 2010 Posted May 26, 2010 I think the question is, do you want realism or not? Realism in a sim has many boundaries. If you want to fly a realistic aircraft flight model then Falcon would be akin to a GAME, if you want a serious Flight model then the Su-25T in Flaming Cliffs is unparalleled by any other jet combat sim on the market. YuriVII Posted May 30, 2010 Posted May 30, 2010 I think BS and LOMAC is a bit like comparing apples to oranges, as one is for popping up behind mountains and busting some armor, and the other is about pulling a lot of Gs 10,000m in the air. flight model for bs is much more comprehensive though.
