GGTharos Posted June 3, 2010 Posted June 3, 2010 Not specified except that it was 'full capability as per existing opposing force order of battle and doctrine'. :) I imagine this sort of knowledge about the enemy was classified. I would assume one Su-27S equipped with ECM pods. Also note the exchange ratio with Su-27S would have been closer back then (maybe 2:1 or 4:1) as opposed to an AMRAAM equipped F-15C (6:1 or possibly better). Naturally newer versions of Su-27 variants close the gap, but this is a very small advance until they get ARH missiles. Forget about the mig-21s :) but what kind of ECMs the Su-27s were using? asparagin Posted June 3, 2010 Posted June 3, 2010 Its not a bad tactic, its a good tactic given the bad PK that only one (SARH) missile have. Let me tell you a better tactic: Send a MIG. Spoiler AMD Ryzen 9 5900X, MSI MEG X570 UNIFY (AM4, AMD X570, ATX), Noctua NH-DH14, EVGA GeForce RTX 3070 Ti XC3 ULTRA, Seasonic Focus PX (850W), Kingston HyperX 240GB, Samsung 970 EVO Plus (1000GB, M.2 2280), 32GB G.Skill Trident Z Neo DDR4-3600 DIMM CL16, Cooler Master 932 HAF, Samsung Odyssey G5; 34", Win 10 X64 Pro, Track IR, TM Warthog, TM MFDs, Saitek Pro Flight Rudders

GGTharos Posted June 3, 2010 Posted June 3, 2010 (edited) Maybe; I was thinking Chinese flanker with PL-12. The R-77 doesn't have the range to out-compete AIM-120C, and I don't know how much updating it receives to keep up with ECM, while AIM-120 receives constant updates. (Mind you I don't mean to imply that R-77 is not dangerous). Also Su-35 (never mind PAK-FA) with the new Russian missiles, whenever they are produced. At this point the F-15 superiority era will be over ... this is why F-22 was built. I would assume then an indian MKI with latest ECM/ECCM + Astra or R-77 would manage to make it 1:1? SFJackBauer Posted June 3, 2010 Posted June 3, 2010 (edited) Two. Together. By the time the flanker gets LA the sparrow will be half-way there. Of course, that's assuming it was a real Su-27S, and a real F-15C, not the flanker-clone-with-F-15-skin that we have in game ;) ... where is a fueling the fire smiley where you need one ... I believe you and your source 100%. But then we are talking about the launch aircrafts radar and ECM capabilities (unfortunately not modelled in-game), not only missile performance. Let me tell you a better tactic: Send a MIG. Again, hardly what I would call a tactic :) Sometimes you have a choice, sometimes you don't, but me specifically tries to experiment with all the AC represented in the simulation. However even in a MIG/R77 combo firing only one missile in certain situations will have a very low PK. On the other extreme, I frequently see people flying in MP ripple-firing R-77s like they are FFARs :D Edited June 3, 2010 by SFJackBauer
