I have been away from Blackshark for about 6 months, so I decided to go back it as I never got around to installing it when I got windows 7 last year as I was always going to reinstall windows, basically I was going to use my first install of win7 64 as a test to see how good it was and then following that I would do a real install and then put my games in.

Anyway, I didnt get around to a second install because I am lazy and because win7 64 works good, so I decided to install BS last week.

Now, flying at night, I always remember the Nighvision system in the shark to be more of a black and white grainy colour than the Green colour that I am getting just now.

I did search to see if the newest patch changed the NV colours but I cant find anything anywhere, so what I am asking is, did the NV colours get changed during one of the patches, because I am now seeing a deep green colour for NV compared to the black and white/grey NV of the original shark release.

Is this picture the same colour as everyone elses NV ?

If you watch this video, from 5:10 onwards you can see the colour of NV I am on about, thats how it used to look like for me, without mods.

in that video is how I remember it to be, but flying tonight for the first time since last year, the NV now has a much stronger tint of green to it and to me it looks totally different than what the NV used to look like if I remember correctly, hence I was wondering if there had been a change in any of the patches and also if my picture above looked the same as everyone elses NV.

I just cannot recall it being so green, I always remembered it as like a black/grey and white grainy colour, not this green that I see now.

Could someone do me a favour and take a pic of their NV and post it here for me to see, because I really think my version is too green, even the hud lettering is green whereas it used to be white at night, so if anyone can post a pic of them up high at night ( not sitting on the runway in the glare of lights ) I would appreaciate it.

Your screenshot looks about like how my NVG's always looked.

Checked your color saturations and so on if you're unused to it?

I always remembered night vision color to be green.

From what I know (and I may be wrong) low-light imaging devices(such as NVG used in military operations) have this green image cause of the green phosphorus they use to amplify light. Thought there are devices that utilize white phosphorus (thus making the image look black/white) studies say that human eye is more sensitive to green light and we can look at green screens for longer periods rather than black/white ones.

So its more possible to have a green image through NVG, cause most are manufactured that way, rather than black/white.

You know the HUD has a night mode correct? Also yeah I have not flown at night for a long time but I do remember it looking more like the youtube link you posted. Perhaps it has to do with ambient light near where you landed. I mean the other pic is at altitude right?

Yea, I know the hud has a night mode and it is in night mode, I just dont remember it being this green, I only seem to recall it being like the youtube video because I liked that so much and I knew straight away something had changed as soon as I pushed H to bring the googles down, even though it was my first night flight for about 6 months or so.

I dont touch my gamma and other settings, so they should be the same from vista to win7, i mean every other colour is the same barring the NV which seems to be uber green compared to what I recall what it was like previously.

I just dont get it, something is different, but I cant think of anything that would of made it like this apart from a patch ? and I am not even sure if the NV got upgraded in a patch or not.

There's a rotative button on the cockpit to adjust the NVG brightness (if we can call that brightness)

I think it was always this way. The thing is that a bright cockpit through NVDs looks the way you remember, green-grayish like the youtube video. Try pausing the video at 5:10 or so as the helmet device brightness knob is being increased. When it's at a low setting it look more green/black. Once up to a higher setting (in a bright environment, clouds, airfield, etc) it takes on a more grayish appearance.

Yea, I know, the lower I turn it, anti clockwise, the deeper the green gets, the higher I turn it clock wise, the lighter the green gets, but the picture above is with the brightness full up, so thats as light as the green colour goes.

I have uninstalled the game, I will reinstall and see if it was something to do with the install or my file tweaks, because I dont like it that colour and, if I remember, it was never that deep of a green that I am seeing now.

I know people are saying that its the same as theres and its always been like that, but since BS came out and up until the end of last year, my NV was nothing like the pic I posted above today.

I dont touch any colour settings via drivers or on my monitor as all desktop colours and ingame colours are perfect with the exception of the NV, so if no one can remember a patch changing the NV colour, then something has went wrong at my end and what has caused it I do not know.

I will re-install and then try it again before I do any tweaks this time, I had added all my tweaks before I started to play last time, so I shall try again without the tweaks and see whats up.

I think there is even a post regarding the lack of green colour in the NV system when BS first came out, if I recall it was something to do with the fact that the goggles were image intensifiers that just magnified the ambient light and gave a black/grey/white picture hence the lack of green.

Note that not only NVG setting influences this - ambient light in the cockpit also has an influence you could look at.

The default is green as green can get. You must have used a NVG mod to get it grainy white. That's what I did - I modded mine to a whitish color. Get the mod from lockonfiles.

Even turning on the cockpit lights with the 1.02 DCS version I can't get the same grayish washout condition that I remeber from 1.00. As far as I can tell the NVG shader has changed along the way somewhere in a patch.
