Su25T - Gunpod - Weapon Delivery

In the manual on page 284 in the Su25T Weapons Delivery section it says this about using the Gunpods:

THE PROGRAMMED MODE IS USED FOR THE PINPOINT ATTACKS AGAINST LIGHTLY ARMORED TARGETS.

Step 1

Identify the target visually.

Step 2

Switch to the air-to-ground mode by pressing the [7] key. Select internal gun mode by pressing the [C] key.

Select gun pods by pressing the [RCtrl-Space] key and confirm weapon selection on the HUD and WCS panel; two gun pods will be selected. Set the ripple interval/gun pods mode to FIX mode and the ripple quantity switch to PO2.

If the aircraft has four gun pods loaded onboard, press [LCtrl-Space] once more. Set the ripple interval/gun pods mode to FIX mode and the ripple quantity switch to PO2.

Step 3

Using the [RAlt--] and [RAlt-+] keys, alter the barrel depression angle by moving the aiming mark along the vertical axis on HUD.

Step 4

Turn on the laser range-finder by pressing the [RShift-O] key. Set the interval/gun pods mode switch to PROGR mode.

Step 5

In a wings-level dive, place the aiming mark on the target and, when "LA" message appears, open fire by pressing the weapon release button on your joystick or by pressing the [space] key on your keyboard. Avoid roll, pitch, and yaw changes while firing for better accuracy.

Step 6

Turn off the laser range-finder/target designator by pressing the [RShift-O] key.

1) However, the Su25T Keyboard manual has no keys bound to the RCtrl-Space! This keystroke is also repeated elsewhere in the Flight Manual. Is this a typo? Isn't this supposed to be the LCtrl-Space keys?

2) Using the LCtrl-Space key, sometimes I can select the Gunpods and sometimes I cannot. Are you required to have the Laser on, or the Shikval TV? Are there some requirements to be met before you can select Gunpods?

3) Can someone explain the GunPod: Programmed Mode please? :helpsmilie:

Here is what the manual says:

3a) What exactly is happening here? Are the guns actually tracking a fixed object/vehicle/spot on the ground? What is the Laser for if it is not tracking? Do the gunpods actually turn to track the target?

3b) Do we really need to set the gunpods to FIX mode first, then later change them to PROGR? That seems strange...

3c) What is the purpose of adjusting the barrel depression angle if you cannot see your target when you tilt them down?

** The manual is very weak on describing what this is for and how it is actually working. For some reason I think I remember the guns tracking somehow in FC1. Any description would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

Snacko

1) I think your right it is LCtrl

2) You must be in cannon mode first IIRC

3) can't remember exactly, but there are 3 modes, 1) is a boresight mode 2) is manual barrel elevation adjustment and 3) Is automatic barrel elevation adjustment to a laser target.

Really all you'll need is the Boresight and the automatic mode. With boresight you can also select the onboard cannon for even more firepower (this is fun with unlimited ammo :) )

What the manual is suggesting for Altering the Barrel elevation and using the Fix mode seems superfluous to me.

Automatic mode works similar to lasing for any other weapon.

The best way to learn is create an empty mission with unlimited ammo and mess around until it becomes easy.

1) Should be LCtrl-Space. I had the same observation as you. http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=51879

2) make sure you're in ground target mode (7 key) and cannon mode (C key) toggles cannon mode. Use lctrl-space to change from fixed to programmed modes.

3)a fixed mode is what it sounds like, the guns are fixed. In programmed mode, you can lase a target and the guns will automatically track the target on the vertical axis.

3b) guns start in fixed mode by default

3c)from a proper distance, you can set depression angle to target the enemy (while flying level), lase, then fire. Works great.

All I can tell you is just play with it and you'll get the pattern. The guns aren't too complex but it does take a bit of playing around with before it all makes sense. It's even more challenging (and rewarding) on the SU-25.

Ok, thanks. Still a little confused, but need more practice I'm sure.

Cheers!

Oh, another important thing is that your guns can't be set to programmed mode if you don't have the SPPU-22-1 gunpods in loadout.
