Are you sure you have a virus because if several anti-virus programs don't find anything then its not there..but try " trendMicro " online scan...it is very good anti-virus checker:thumbup:

Also When was the last time you did a defrag??????

Defrag?+ Where can find trendmicro?+I think it's a virus because I heard when you start up your computer and sign in and the screen goes black, you have a virus. Also, I have said it in almost all of my posts: I am horrible at computer stuff, please explain!:)

FOR Defrag go to start>>Program Files>>Accessories>>>System Tools..in there is Defrag

black screen at start up does not necessarily mean you have a virus

O.K. thanks, I ran a defrag and my computer seems to run better now. I will see how good start up is tommorow. So anyway, thanks for the great info! You get a cookie. Also, what can black screen startup mean because all I'v heard is virus.

All it could mean is that your computer is slow in starting up...most times it run a check thru your system to see what it needs to run and depending on how much stuff you have install it takes longer...you should un-install any programs that you don't use anymore..that tends to slow your system down...just remember; just because you are not running a certain program doesn't necessarily mean a part of that program is not running all programs have a little piece of it running in the background all of the time...

I don't want to give to much of "try this! and this! ... and this!", but have you've ever cleaned up your registry? When uninstalling programs, they sometimes leaves old entries back, which they computer then uses resources on.

Try something called CCleaner. http://www.filehippo.com/download_ccleaner/

It will both clean your Internet cache and history, and can clean the registry.

Well my computer is going a little faster now but I still get a black screen for a while when I sign in. Should I be worried?

My specs are:ATI Radeon HD 3200 Integrated and AMD Phenom 2 X4 quad core processor and Windows 7 home prenium 64-bit. Today it started up fine but it takes a longer time than usuall to shut down.

Do you have the latest video and sound drivers ?

Does your hard drive light blink or show activity when the screen goes black or when shutting down ?

If your video is intregrated on the motherboard what is your system brand eg, Dell, Gateway, etc. ? ( I know this isn't always the case but I thought I would throw this in just in-case)

Have your ever run "CHKDSK" on your system before? (If you have not I will post the procedure in my next post for you)

Did Win 7 come with your system or did you install it over your existing OS ? (ie., upgrade ?)

Thats about all I can think of right now:book:

I have Gateway, Win 7 came with it, have never run CHKDSK.

Also, it might be a coincidence but before I signed-in, I left it on the sign in screen for a minute or two which=normal sartup. The other times I signed in immediatly which sometimes = black screen startup.

The link below will walk you through the steps to do a check disk or CHKDSK.

I would suggest you do this before you go to bed and let it run overnight. It is very lengthy process but it will do wonders for your system. I recommend the chkdsk /f command. This will do a complete hard drive scan.

Also, you need to make sure your drivers are up-to date for your video and sound.

Using an onboard video card makes it difficult play high end games like BS and FC2. If you can swing it I would recommend a solid video card like a GeForce GTX 480 or the equivelant in Radeon.

You can disable the onboard video card via jumper on the mainboard, no problem; then install the new card. If you choose to do this it could void your Gateway warranty. So be carefull. If you choose to do this I would take it to a A+ certified professional and have it installed.

Good Luck !
